Fascinating read! Thanks for doing the work to unearth this. The old Konami logo always made me feel like I was about to play something awesome. A few years ago, I drafted a logo for a client and unintentionally recreated the Konami "bacon" design. Shows how ingrained it became in my brain!
Huh, I never realized there was a Street Fighter 1. Obviously there has to be, but my brain never gave it a thought. The sequel absolutely dominated the arcades during my childhood. Somehow the roman numeral "II" in its title seemed less like a series installment and more like a cool suffix. I do remember the NES had a game called Street Fighter: 2010; perhaps my brain unconsciously interpreted that as Street Fighter 1. Either way, now I'm curious to play the first game!
