Re: Xbox 360, PS3 And Nintendo Wii U Are "Officially Retro", Says GameStop

MrPeanutbutterz

@Martin_H Nope.

TV, film, etc. aren't spoken about in such terms because they're old, established mediums that have been in their "adult phase" for a long time now. Games are still "growing up", and the progression every ten years or so is obvious. We can see the changes, we can see the medium aging right in front of us.

Music can and is spoken about in such terms, albeit "old school" is subbed in for "retro". Like if I hear anyone talking about a modern "old school death metal band", then I know they're gonna sound like a band from 1988 to 1991. Applying "old school" to other genres like jazz, disco, R&B works too. Even recording techniques can be described as "old school" and people will know what's been spoken about.

Re: The Untold Story Of WipEout Zero, The PS4 Anti-Grav Racer We Never Got To Play

@1040STF It's already a niche product with very specific fans. Why alienate them? Not everything needs to be a reinvention of the wheel. They tried to a bit with WipEout Fusion and gave us what's considered the weakest game in the series.

Your example is poor as well. I've been playing both WipEout and GoW since their original games. GoW had to pivot to something else as most people would agree the series was exhausted and out of ideas with Ascension.

WipEout is a very different type of game though. Most fans want new tracks and shops, with tweaks to the gameplay. Whatever WipEout Zero was supposed to be wasn't it.
