Re: Random: This Two-Sided NES Cart Is Blowing Our Tiny Minds

Bro3256

I actually had a similar idea to this a few months back albeit rather than two games on two different 72-pin slots, instead it was a single game but one side was a 60-pin slot for Famicom and the other was a 72-pin slot for NES thus creating a fully compatible 8-bit Nintendo cartridge. Would be cool to see someone run with that version of the dual cartridge idea.

Re: Three Years Later, And Hyperkin's PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 Clone Is Finally Coming Out

I don't see this console selling well, a software emulation based console at nearly $100 usd during an age where hardware emulation (FPGA) based consoles are becoming the standard for interfacing with original media and controllers. There is definitely room for an affordable clone console regardless of the technology used but I feel Hyperkin really fumbled the bag on this one. For PC Engine and TurboGrafx-16 players you are better off getting either a Pocket or Duo and while it is more expensive than Hyperkin's console, saving up for Analogue's offerings is the smarter choice.

Re: Anniversary: Is Tetris Really 40 This Year?

I would love to see if there is any real tangible evidence for that supposed June 6, 1984 date as it's been made clear that it was fabricated in 2009 and hasn't been walked back since. The Tetris Company as of now has completely denied the 1985 release year without really going into detail as to why other than it being internet speculation.

Re: Soapbox: Here's Why I Can't Ditch Software Emulation Handhelds For The FPGA Analogue Pocket

Bro3256

Gonna be honest I find this reason to be a bit weird as someone who plays older games. Sure save states are a useful feature, but I feel like the biggest disadvantage in regards to FPGA based systems are the limited selection of cores compared to the dozens of software emulators you'll find. I feel like it comes down to what games you are intending to play and if that system in particular can handle them. Having to download a limited selection of developed cores for each arcade, home console, and portable system on the Pocket compared to having software emulators with a wider selection is something to consider far more than something like save states. I can live without using save states but not having the ability to play certain games at all is a far bigger concern. That's not to say people shouldn't value save states, far from it! I just personally think the importance leans more in being able to play the games I want to and while the developed cores for the various FPGA platforms are impressive, compared to software emulation it's no contest. It really comes down to what your use case is and either option is valid.

Re: The MSX2 Version Of Dragon Slayer IV Is Coming To Switch

Bro3256

Really cool that we're finally seeing MSX games on Switch. The last time they were on Nintendo systems was Wii U Virtual Console in Japan and due to the shutdown of the eShop all those games are inaccessible not to mention being Japan exclusive. Great to finally see these re-releases again albeit under EGGCONSOLE rather than Nintendo themselves.

Re: Controversial Retro Store DK Oldies Just Got Hacked

Everyone who is remotely interested in used video games has likely heard of the bad reputation this store has gotten and its best that we just stop talking about it. They made it clear that they're not gonna change so why bother complaining when you can find another game store to shop at? This isn't to dismiss the criticisms that have been thrown their way. It sucks that they do a poor job at refurbishment despite their claims, but complaining about their high prices only does so much when it takes looking elsewhere to find better deals. Hence why we should just move on already and shop elsewhere.
