Don't know if it would have enough of a RPG inside it to count, but Troubleshooter: abandoned children is an absolute joy to play if you like strategy meatier than the likes of ff tactics (and that general style). It sorry of straddles the line between strategy game and RPG, as the story has far more to it than XCom does which is just a few beats and you are otherwise left to your own devices. You are railroaded into the story, though, which is told inbetween missions. It uses the modern XCom style in battle and has absurd customisation options. I have spent many, many hours in the game, and the love that has been imbued in it oozes out of it. Equally, it comes out of a small indie company so it's easy to miss.
