Chapu Translations, the fan translator behind English patches for Japan-exclusive games like Tiny Bullets, Wonder Trek, and Prisoner, has announced that the next PlayStation title they will be tackling will be Takara and Dual's 1997 first-person dungeon crawler Schrödinger no Neko.

The ROM hacker announced the new patch yesterday via a short trailer on YouTube, where they revealed that they will be partnering with the Japanese-to-English translator Cadensia and image & movie editing expert Super Retro Polygons, in order to make the game more accessible to English-speaking audiences.

No release date was given, other than it is "coming soon", but over on BlueSky, the hacker did give a few more details about the hack. Namely, that it is "absolutely human-made" with "no AI, LLM, MTL or anything like that" being used for the translation, art, or coding.

Takara is probably best known in the West as the company responsible for the creation of popular toys like Transformers and Beyblade, but also had a presence in games throughout the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, famously being the publisher of the Battle Arena Toshinden series. Schrödinger no Neko was a game it published in the late '90s, and is named after the famous thought experiment by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger.

There are no lab coats, flasks of poison, or radiation detectors here, though (as far as we can tell), with the game instead focusing on the story of a young girl named Iris (アイリス), who gets lost while visiting family.

Following a cat, she arrives in a strange new world and enters a castle, marking the beginning of an adventure that will see her travelling through time.
