@Damo True but my wider point is that surely it's better to use your platform to inform readers so that they can have a more considered view before a purchase rather than have no mention of it at all because you do not agree on a personal level.
@Damo I've been coming to TE since you launched. You're the best site online for retro gaming by far. However, for me a big part of that is you being an objective news source. News is news, regardless of your personal feelings about it, as is product coverage / reviews. What about all the Chinese devices you cover? Surely China's human rights record should preclude them all based on your position. If you are going to slowly but surely have a stance of not covering things you personally do not like or take offence to then you're not being objective any more, and as you say yourself where does that end? We live in a time where more and more shady practices are being exposed amongst companies we never associated with that sort of thing previously.
Covering ModRetro, SNK, or any other company with dubious histories or actions may rankle on a personal level but you could be using your platform to highlight the issues with these companies rather than avoid them completely. Lots of people may be completely unaware about what Palmer Luckey gets up to. I know I was until I read about your decision not to cover them (which I thought was a great shame). I trust your opinion on products and I'd rather find out about all the positives and negatives on this site as part of a "great product, but did you know ..." review rather than read about M64 elsewhere and potentially remain in the dark. Not all people are into current affairs or fully versed in history to know and if you are then you could be educating and informing, rather than ignoring. How are people to vote with their wallets if they don't know all the facts or context?
Please take this comment in the spirit it is meant. I'm not criticising. I just hope you'll reconsider your stance on coverage rather than continue down a path where what you can report on or cover grows more and more limited over time based on your own moral compass.
I'm a massive Rare fan and having the Rare Collection 1 cart and now the Banjo double pack is such amazing news. I'm hoping that other Rare games will come out on Evercade too in the future; I've got my fingers crossed for Perfect Dark, Blast Corps and Conker.
I totally get why this isn't for everyone and the price is also a shade higher than I'd like. Sure, I know I can emulate all these games on my Steam Deck but owning them physically and never losing access to them in the future is really appealing, plus they are supposed to be optimised by Evercade rather than them just copy and pasting an old rom onto the cart. Playing via handheld without having to worry about subscriptions, internet connections or sub-par emulation personally really scratches an itch I've had for a long time.
I'm not sure why seeing him arrive in a fancy car is necessary for the "review" and the box he pulls out from the passenger seat looks like he dug it up from under a serial killer's lair in the woods. The whole thing looks dodgy. I just hope no one giving him the benefit of the doubt loses their money and are happy with whatever the end result is for this thing.
