Re: I'm Really Not Sure How I Feel About Sony Killing Physical Media

megadirt

Sometimes in this situation the issue is with people arguing about different things in the same discussion. I prefer physical media on my shelf, I prefer digital for not having to get out of my seat if i change my mind about a game, but either way I want to own the things I buy.

The switching costs are too high when you have no interoperability and no ownership over the software. Companies will often abuse customers when they can get away with it, and there is a large difference between 'digital games vs physical games' and 'renting games vs owning games' (digital or otherwise) and that is the real argument that matters. If any company can take things away from their customers when it benefits their shareholder letters or business partners they will do it eventually. Every single time.
