I wonder if the rights issues between co-creators Rob Grant and Doug Naylor may have made it difficult to commission the game.
While Grant left the series around 1996, Naylor continued making the show. When Naylor was stood down from the board of Grant Naylor productions in 2020, it lead to legal action and finally an announcement that both were now free to develop new Red Dwarf media. Rob Grant then co-wrote a new prequel novel, which will be released posthumously as he passed away earlier this year.
This is sheer conjecture on my part, but it's possible that Doug Naylor was allowed to make new TV episodes of the show between 1997-2020, but couldn't commission things in any other format without Grant's permission. Mind you, there's never been a formal statement to my knowledge as to why Grant departed the show after Series 6, so we may never know.
@SuperKMx Have you tried charging back through your bank? Provide them with a copy of your emails- they should either be able to search for the transaction or contact Playmaji through legal means, as what Playmaji has said is an allegation of professional misconduct against the bank.
Let Playmaji know you're doing this too- they might 'find' the money suddenly...
Love the Metroid suggestion. Take a page out of The Mandalorian's book and keep the helmet and suit on as much as possible. There was that great fan film (The Sky Below?) that used Iron Man style helmet cam shots to great effect.
And what about Phantasy Star? Plenty of lore to adapt.
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a singular gamer in possession of disposable income, must be in want of a NES Platformer featuring Jane Austen slapping Mr Darcy upside the head with a quill.

I ordered mine at the end of 2022 along with my Ultra Module. I've received the Ultra Module at least...
