We've already covered the promising-looking DreamColor Plus controller for the Dreamcast, and with good reason – it's got a colour screen and a second analogue stick, for starters – but the project has taken an unexpectedly awesome turn.
The team behind the aftermarket controller has updated its wireless receiver so it can connect the Dreamcast to the internet via WiFi. No other hardware is required, although games will need to be modified in order to work with this system.
Sega turned off the Dreamcast's web servers decades ago, but fans have been working on re-establishing online connectivity for the console's library over the past few years.
You can get your Dreamcast back online with specialised gear, but the DreamColor Plus should offer the most streamlined solution yet, since you don't need a modem, serial adapter, or any other hardware to get it running.
Amazingly, the update is already available, so if you've ordered a DreamColor Plus, you should be able to sample this right away.
