Update []:
Taito's shoot 'em up Exzisus is officially out today, as part of Arcade Archives!
The game was teased last month as coming to PlayStation, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch platforms this week, but yesterday Hamster Corporation released a few more details, including some screenshots, a short promotional video of the game in action, and the price on its website.
That's in addition to an official description to give you some insight into the arcade shooter and what to expect:
"Can you defeat the mysterious army threatening the 4th Galaxy?!
EXZISUS" is a shooting game released by TAITO in 1987.
Control Cosmo Fighter Robin and defeat the mysterious army infesting the 4th Galaxy using your blaster and missiles.
"Each item collected powers Robin up, allowing it to transform into Turbo Jet mode or summon bird and dog animal robots to support you in attack.
Aim for the weak parts of the giant robots waiting at the end of each stage."
According to the website, the game will cost $7.99 on Nintendo Switch and PS4, with the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 versions being priced slightly higher at $9.99. All versions will come with additional modes, with the Arcade Archives 2 version for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 featuring a bonus Time Attack Mode.
Original Story []: Hamster Corporation has offered a sneak peek at one of the titles heading to its Arcade Archives in November. As reported by Japanese outlet Famitsu, Taito's horizontally scrolling shmup Exzisus will launch November 5 on PlayStation, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch platforms.
Released in 1987, amid a tidal wave of pew-pew arcade blasters, the frustratingly titled Exzisus puts players in the pilot seat of a giant mech suit, with the ability to, ahem, transform between human and ship configurations - Androids in A Guise.
The player utilises both forms' respective abilities to fend off waves of enemies attacking from all directions. Mechanical animals - definitely not Laserbeak and Ravage - can also join the fight to aid the player in battle. Four stages await, each with its own challenging boss battle. These encounters include a giant cybernetic scorpion, a coiled serpent, and a robot with really bad posture.
Exzisus has been previously made available via compilations such as the excellent PS2 Taito Legends series, so it can't really be called a rarity. But it's a pretty solid little shmup and lends further stock to Taito's stake in Catchiest Arcade Soundtrack Composer of the 1980s.
Exzisus launches on PlayStation, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch platforms on November 5.
