'It's Been a While, but We Have a Mega95 Update' - Hyperkin's Portable Genesis Is Finally Close to Release 1

Who knew that making a portable Sega Genesis / Mega Drive was so difficult?

Hyperkin has struggled to get its Mega95 device ready for release for a while, and the last time we heard, the company had to delay it because of manufacturing issues.

It seems Hyperkin has finally overcome these problems, as the company issued a new statement saying that "R&D and community testing are complete" and that "mass production is starting, and packaging is being finalised" (thanks, Retro Dodo).

Footage of the console in action – both in handheld and docked modes – is also shown, and Hyperkin says that pre-order news is "coming soon."

This isn't the first portable Genesis/Mega Drive we've seen. Sega released its own in the form of the Nomad back in the 1990s, and we've seen similar systems appear since. However, if Hyperkin is prepared to delay its solution twice, then it bodes well for the final quality of the product.

We'll have a review live when the Mega95 launches.
