Regardless of whether you prefer the movie or TV series of What We Do in the Shadows, the simple fact is that it's one of the funniest comic creations of the past few decades – and it now has its own AI-free video game adaptation, even if it's unofficial.
"Laszlovania sets the world of What We Do in the Shadows into an action-adventure like no other," says Edward La Barbera (Frasier Fantasy, Crazy Taxi: Tim Walz Edition), who describes the game as a homage to both "the hit FX show and early Castlevania titles."
In the game, which lasts for around an hour, players assume the role of Laszlo Cravensworth (played by Matt Berry in the TV show) as he "meets old friends, conquers evil forces, and attempts to skirt responsibility at every turn."
You can play the game in your browser, or buy a ROM for five bucks to play on the Nintendo DS, either via emulation or a flash cart.
Written and directed by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, What We Do in the Shadows began life as a 2014 mockumentary starring its creators as part of a vampire group living in an apartment in New Zealand.
The movie has spawned a self-contained media universe, including the TV show Wellington Paranormal and the aforementioned American series, which ran from 2019 to 2024.
A new movie, We're Wolves, is currently in development.
