Here's something a little out of the ordinary for you: a member of the preservationist group Gaming Alexandria, called Jumpman, has just discovered a long-lost TV commercial for Atari's North American arcade release of Xevious, hidden in an old recording of a Phillies vs Mets baseball game from April 5th, 1983 (h/t: F_T_B).

Until recently, the most complete recording anyone had was an audio recording uploaded to YouTube in 2017 by YouTube user Tony Roy.

Beneath this video, Roy explained the circumstances of how he came to record only the sound for the ad, stating, "When I was young, we couldn't afford a VCR. So I used to record the audio of our TV with a tape recorder... While recording the audio of a program, this TV commercial came on, advertising an Atari arcade video game."

Inevitably, after this was uploaded, a bunch of people got curious and started searching for the rest of the ad.

Unfortunately, though, it appeared (for the longest time, at least) that the rest of the ad had been lost to time, with a commenter going by the name @JerryRoche-rl1vo mentioning on Roy's video that some footage was also aired during an episode of the arcade video game show Starcade, but without audio and only in bite-sized clips:

"A brief video only clip of this elusive TV commercial can be found during episode 015 of the Starcade TV game show which had aired on SuperStation WTBS (known today as TBS) from 1982 to 1985 (though new episodes had ended a year earlier in 1984). This episode is available on YouTube at the official Starcade YouTube channel.

As @JerryRoche-rl1vo mentioned, they had also been searching for a full copy of the commercial "for years", but ultimately conceded, "this short video clip of the commercial along with the audio of the entire commercial here is better than nothing."

Funnily enough, though, it seems the full commercial has been online for over three years, just buried deep within an almost three-hour video recording of a baseball game from the early '80s (skip to 1:22:57 for the goods).

Thanks to Jumpman, who originally located it, this video is now preserved on Archive.org. That means Xevious fans can finally enjoy classic phrases like "The Zoshi Death Squad is on my tail" and "Are you devious enough to beat Xevious?" with video (for the full and proper experience!).
