It's a great day to be a C64 fan, as legendary publisher Thalamus Digital has released a brand-new title for the world's greatest bread bin. Binky: Frozen in Time is a single-screen platformer recalling the halcyon days of Commodore's classic arcade efforts and, better still, is available to purchase right now.

Binky: Frozen in Time puts players in the frozen feet of the titular ice dragon, tasked with bringing his frosty footfall to every platform in the cavern. Once the entire level is frozen, an exit portal opens, and Binky can make his escape to the next stage.

There are 20 hazard-filled caverns in all. With each featuring an increasingly complex layout, as well as a host of troublesome baddies, it's going to take some efficient, well-planned navigation to guide our ice-cool character to safety.

Developed by Snowball Games, Binky: Frozen in Time was designed and coded by Chris Shrigley and Terry Lloyd, who are responsible for a host of classic C64 titles including Bounder, Bulldog, Future Knight, and Rick Dangerous. The cover art was handled by Gremlin Graphics alumnus Simon Phipps, with composer Tomas Danko handling the game's chirpy SID soundtrack.

"I've always had a soft spot for the classic platformers," notes Shrigley. "So when Terry Lloyd suggested we make a proper homage to all the games we played and loved back in the day, I was all over it. I think we ended up with a cracking little game, chock full of nostalgia. It was fun to make, and we hope people will have fun playing it."

Binky: Frozen in Time is available now from Snowball Games as a .D64 file. The developer suggests using original C64 hardware or the VICE emulator for best results. Along with an upcoming physical release, Snowball Games hopes to port the title to other formats in the future, including Amiga, Atari ST, and ZX Spectrum.
