However, AYANEO has received criticism for how it has distributed the device. After the initial batch sold out, the company announced not one but two new colourways, annoying some sectors of the community, who would rather have had all of the potential options available to them when the first pre-orders went live.
The Chinese firm has just released a sixth variant of the Pocket Advance, but you can't buy this one outright, it would seem (thanks, Retro Dodo).
This 'Developer Special Edition' is intended for those who wish to create apps and frontends for AYANEO's range of emulation-based products.
AYANEO ships its own software and apps with its products, which sit on top of the Windows and Android operating systems, but it's clearly open to the idea of external developers enhancing the user experience. That's certainly a good thing, as it makes the entire AYANEO ecosystem more vibrant and appealing.
The company hasn't announced how this particular model will be distributed, but I have to say that it's one cool-looking design.
