Windjammers

Jérémy Lemaire, otherwise known as Boomchil, has just released a new fan-made ROM hack for Data East's 1994 Neo Geo "future sports" game, Windjammers.

As Lemaire states on his website, "Windjammers... is without a doubt one of the Neo•Geo's best versus games. It's a real treat in two-player mode, and hasn't aged a bit in 30 years. But for me it has always suffered from one big flaw: rounds end far too quickly."

As a result, his new ROM hack Windjammers Endless Breeze lets you configure the round duration and the points required to win, so you can pull off "gorgeous" rallies and experience longer matches.

Players can now select 30, 45, 60, 75, or 90 seconds and can even set the timer to infinite if they want to ignore the clock entirely, or set the total points needed to 12, 15, 20, 30, 50, 75, or 99.

That's not all either, as Lemaire has also used the hack as an opportunity to incorporate some other tweaks, too, letting you select the bonus games Dog Distance and Flying Disc Bowling right from the main menu and unlocking the Expert difficulty from the word go. In addition to that, the "awful, eye-straining flashing background" has also been removed, as well as the "left and right black bars" to give you a wider picture.

You'll need to provide your own copy of the ROM to patch, but you can patch the game directly from Boomchil's website. Enjoy!
