Update #2 []:
The Indiegogo campaign for the top-down run 'n' gunner Sovietborgs is now live!
If you want to back the project, there are currently a bunch of different versions available to pre-order, including editions for the Sega Dreamcast, MS-DOS computers, Neo Geo MVS / Neo Geo AES, and Sega Mega Drive / Genesis.
The Sega Dreamcast edition, for instance, is available in three styles, and is being sold in a standard edition based on the packaging for North American Dreamcast games (£38), as well as a limited edition PAL version (£85), and a special edition steelbook (£85).
The Sega Mega Drive / Genesis version, on the other hand, is being presented in a clamshell case featuring PAL or NTSC-U artwork (£51), while the proposed MS-DOS "Big Box" copies come with either a floppy disk (£85) or CD-ROM (£68), depending on which option you pick. As expected, the Neo Geo AES and Neo Geo MVS versions are far and away the most expensive, though, with the MVS version priced at £299, while the AES version costs £341.

Here's a link to the Indiegogo campaign, where you can back the project and a short description of the game's story:
On November 9th, 1989, the KGB’s glorious electronic brain, Tovarisch-Prime, became self-aware, and immediately managed to take control of Arpanet, triggering the detonation of all capitalist thermo-nuclear devices inside their own silos.
The red flag rises all around the globe, but there are still territories, populated with capitalistic mutants, that insist on rejecting liberation.
Part man, part machine, all proletariat, the Sovietborgs are the new elite unit of the Red Army, determined to eliminate all remaining pockets of resistance and free-thinking that dare threatening our Workers' Paradise. Inmune to radiation, they can go where no one else can and liberate them of their pitiful existence. For the glory of a world without crime, that is!
Orders are expected to ship in December 2026. A demo of the game is also available.
Update #1 []:
Retro Sumus has announced it will be launching an Indiegogo campaign next month for its Chaos Engine-esque top-down run 'n' gunner Sovietborgs, which was previously revealed to be in development for Sega Mega Drive / Genesis, Sega Dreamcast, and Neo Geo.
The campaign is scheduled to go live on June 25th and will be focused on securing funds to help the company finish the development of the retro title.
Here are some screenshots of the game:
In addition to this, it has also revealed in a new teaser video that it has added yet another machine to the game's growing list of platforms, announcing that a port for MS-DOS-compatible computers is also on the way.

Original Story: Retro Sumus — the team behind the Dreamcast title Xenocider — is currently working on a new top-down run 'n' game for the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis, Sega Dreamcast, and Neo Geo.
Sovietborgs was first teased over a year ago at the RetroBarcelona event, in Spain, and is set in an alternative reality where the Soviets turned the world into a Nuclear wasteland.
Players take control of a new Cyborg unit of the Red Army, with the goal being to explore an irradiated world that's left and wipe out the mutated monsters and rebel factions that patrol the land.
All of the action in the game is displayed from a top-down view similar to titles like the Bitmap Brothers' title The Chaos Engine, and also features pre-rendered graphics that were developed using similar techniques to games like Donkey Kong Country and Vectorman.
Over the last year, Retro Sumus has been posting frequent updates about the project over on its YouTube channel and has also distributed a Mega Drive / Genesis alpha demo to several YouTubers and members of the press, including The Sega Guru, Dreamcast Junkyard, and Retro Faith — the reaction to which has been almost exclusively positive as far as we can see.
According to Retro Sumus, the game will feature music from the Xenocider composer and Spanish electronic musician Juango Martín and will also feature some original cover art from the comic artist Agustín Padilla (Green Arrow, Borderlands, G.I Joe, and more).
There's no news on an official release date yet, but the team has teased in various interviews that it may go down the Kickstarter route, ahead of its launch, in order to fund the development of additional game modes and offer special collector's editions for those who want them.
