You might have heard of Antstream Arcade, the free, ad-supported streaming service that lets you play a selection of Arcade, Amiga, Commodore 64, and ZX Spectrum games over the internet.
Well, today, Antstream studio head Mike Rouse announced in an online video that it is lowering its premium subscription costs to just £1/$1/€1 per month, so if you want to make the upgrade to a full membership there's probably not a better time than right now.
With a premium subscription, you'll be able to access over 1300 retro video games and 600 custom-built challenges without ads for only £12/$12/€12 a year. It's a tempting deal, especially if you want to unlock some of the additional features like save states, rewards, and achievements.
This wasn't the only announcement in the video; it also included a closer look at the Vision Update, which will see Antstream Arcade recreated from the ground up with an improved UI, better player customization, as well as improvements to streaming quality. There are also apparently plans to start adding 32-bit and 64-bit games in the future. You'll find more info on the Antstream Arcade website.

I really like Antstream, but I always wonder how they’re making money, and worry that it can’t be sustainable. At first they were charging £10 per month - massively overpriced, which presumably no-one was subscribing at, then they pivoted to their current freemium model which was supposedly ad-supported, but the only adverts I ever saw were ones from Antstream themselves!
Now their new plan looks more sensible / sustainable. But it’s another big change - I hope it works out for them this time.
