The Jaleco-published NES title Shatterhand will be released on Nintendo Switch next month, as part of City Connection's ongoing series of JALECOlle Famicom Ver. releases.
This month marks two years since City Connection started its JALECOlle Famicom Ver. series of retro releases, embarking on a quest to bring a bunch of select Jaleco deep cuts over to the Nintendo Switch with various emulation-based enhancements, and since then, it seems the initiative has only gone from strength to strength.
Just yesterday, for instance, the team released the NES version of Jaleco's 1990 arcade platformer Rod Land, developed by Storm (a sub-label of The Sales Curve), on the Nintendo console, and it's already teasing plans for another hotly requested game, in the form of Natsume's sidescrolling sci-fi action game.
Originally released in Japan in 1991, Shatterhand was published in the region under the name Super Rescue Solbrain by a Bandai subsidiary (Angel) and was initially designed as a licensed tie-in for the Metal Hero tokusatsu television series Tokkyū Shirei Soruburein.
When it was brought to the States, however, Jaleco took over publishing duties, releasing it as Shatterhand with different graphics and an altered story (though some sources speculate that Shatterhand was developed first, despite the release date order).
The plot of the game focuses on a young police officer from the Bronx named Hermann, who is injured while trailing a group of cyborg soldiers, only to be resurrected by scientists as Shatterhand, a cybernetically enhanced crime-fighting agent.
As far as we can see, the official website hasn't been updated with a proper release date and the features you can expect.
However, if this is anything like previous JALECOlle Famicom Ver. releases (which we expect it will be), then you should probably expect a built-in timer for speedrunning, beginner-friendly assists like a rewind function, achievements, screen filter options, and a gallery for viewing artwork related to the title.
