@Tom_Gamer I wish someone with guts was in charge of Sega. They need it. They have so much potential it's insane! Japan might be too loyal to Nintendo though.
@bring_on_branstons variety. SNES was still new at the time and only had a few titles released at a time from Nintendo themselves. Meanwhile Sega had multiple dev teams from across the globe making games for the Genesis/Mega Drive's second wind essentially. Sonic was a smash hit the year before. that opened the floodgates for more potential console sellers. So they crammed as many games into a single commercial. That's what i think anyway. You had Sega of Europe, Sega of America, and Sega of Japan all making games for the Genesis/Mega Drive while Nintendo only really had Nintendo of Japan. The SNES only launched with a few titles too. While it's the same for Sega back in 88-89, it was 4-5 years into the console's lifespan and Sega had more to offer. They probably wanted it to look better than Nintendo because of the number of titles. It's like taking up ad space in a catalogue for what games parents should buy their kids. But Nintendo caught up soon after. Arguably I think F-Zero was better than Super Mario Kart but i know people who like that over F-Zero. There's that old Paul Rudd commercial that shows off a bunch of SNES games.
I don't have fond memories of Sega Forever. It frankly sucked. It was almost all Genesis games that played worse than just emulating them with a regular emulator because it required internet connection unless you bought it. The free version of the games would lag like crazy and have forced ads every few seconds. Crazy Taxi played ok but that was it. Granted my tablet was dated even at the time. But i remember getting excited after seeing the commercial and telling everyone in my extended family and friends online about how cool it was that Sega was going to add all of it's classic games from across all consoles on mobile. It ended up being mostly Genesis games just like Sega Ages on Switch but at least Sega Ages on Switch actually played well, had QOL improvements, and was dirt cheap. But still it's mostly Genesis games which are already in tons of collections released every console generation. No love for Saturn or Dreamcast from Sega which is a major disappointment. We need a new Sega console with it's own dedicated service and an online store with games from every console and handheld they ever made including arcade titles. I want it to be a one stop shop for everything Sega and i want it to blow Nintendo's greedy butts out of the water!
around the year 2000 was when the Dreamcast was alive and well. I hope Sega can innovate enough with older IPs and franchises while also staying true to what they are. I'd love for them to get back into making consoles again. Nintendo is way too cocky now. Sega has buttloads of games and gameplay styles that are ripe for revivals.
