Re: Palmer Luckey's Nintendo 64 Clone Will Cost $199 For Early Adopters

@NoPhysicalNoBuy Their shipping is what kills it for me. The Pocket itself is expensive but I get it. It's a niche product and has good build quality and all that. See, I'm most of the way there to convincing myself the price is justified, and I certainly want one... But then you put the international shipping on it and convert the price to my currency and it's just an instant "no thanks". It's $107AUD just for shipping. That's not a niche or quality tax, it's a rort. There is no way in hell it costs them that much to package and post internationally. And if that's how badly they're willing to gip me on postage, how greedy are they being with their profit margins when it comes to their hardware? Maybe I was wrong to convince myself the price is justified...

Great list. Definitely classics but I don't think I could play an 8 bit RPG like FFI or Phantasy Star these days.

Would love to see a similar list just for SRPGs.

Cool stuff. Really don't know why devs like this don't just make "spiritual successors" rather than straight up use an existing IP. They can try to monetise it then which given the effort they put in I think they deserve.

Nothing wrong with doing it as a hobby of course and good on them but yeah, I can't wrap my head around putting so much work in given the huge risk of receiving a cease and desist once you go live.

Have been mildly interested in the Evercade and nearly bought it before. Just not sure I'd play it enough to justify the outlay. Especially with those Chinese emulation devices getting better and better by the month.

I do like the idea of having carts with games on them though. I think it's because I've gone totally digital on consoles. I kind of miss physical media in a way.

I bought one. Honestly no idea why people wrap it so much. It still feels kind of cheap and I don't think the buttons are that great at all. I guess it's a decent machine but it's also not exactly cheap. I expected it to feel a lot better.

Mine came with a sticky shoulder button so I ended up just sending it back.
