Nihon Falcom have signed an agreement with the South Korean developer/publisher Neowiz to bring the RPG The Legend of Heroes II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch (known in Japan as The Legend of Heroes III: Shiroki Majo) to PC and consoles globally (h/t: Gematsu).

The third game in the Legend of Heroes series overall (following 1989's Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes and 1992's Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes II), The Legend of Heroes II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch was originally released in 1994 for the NEC PC-9801 and is the first title in the Gagharv Trilogy. This is a trilogy of games that focuses on the adventures of three groups of heroes from different regions of the same world across different eras, all working to prevent a disaster from taking place.

The first game centres on the pilgrimage of a young boy named Jurio and his childhood friend, a girl named Chris, to follow in the footsteps of a girl named The White Witch across the land of Tirasweel, which reportedly leads to an "epic" adventure filled with memorable music and evolving relationships between the central cast.

After its original release on the PC-98, the game later came to the Sega Saturn, Sony PlayStation, and PC, but didn't see a localisation until a PSP release in 2006, which was published by Bandai Namco and pretty roundly criticised for its lacklustre translation. A version of the PC-9801 game was also released earlier this year as part of D4 Enterprise's EGGCONSOLE initiative for Nintendo Switch, but was only available in Japanese.

As part of Nihon Falcom's 40th anniversary celebrations in 2021, Dengeki Online held a poll, asking Japanese players, among other things, "what games or series would you like to see released on current-generation consoles"? In response, fans of the developer voted in favour of a rerelease of the Gagharv trilogy, expressing a hope for all three games to be rereleased in a single package.

Right now, as Gematsu notes, it's unclear what form this new release will take, and what specific consoles will be targeted. We'll keep an eye out for more info as it arrives.
