Rhapsody II

When Hamster released Nippon Ichi Software's PlayStation RPG Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure on Nintendo Switch 2 & PS5 last month as part of Console Archives, I had a feeling it would be only a matter of time before the sequel followed, and it turns out, I was right.

Earlier today, Hamster revealed it plans to rerelease Rhapsody II: Ballad of the Little Princess, the 1999 follow-up to the cult-classic turn-based PlayStation RPG, with the game set to launch tomorrow (Thursday, August 20th 2026) on Nintendo Switch 2 and PS5.

Here's a short description from the developer:

"Rhapsody II: Ballad of the Little Princess" was released by Nippon Ichi Software in 1999 for a 32-bit home console. Set 12 years after “Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure”, this musical RPG follows Kururu—the daughter born to Cornet and Prince Ferdinand—as she sets off on a journey to find her ideal prince.

Enjoy the world of the Marl Kingdom brought to life by richly expressive characters and a newly revamped battle system that adds deeper tactical depth."

As stated on the website, this rerelease will cost $14.99 and comes with a range of additional options, including screen filters, customisable button layouts, and save states, but sadly lacks an English localisation. Hamster attributes this to the original game being released only in Japan, with only the user interface and manual being available in English, while the rest of the game's text remains in Japanese.

Because of this, if you want to experience the game in English, you may want to opt for the Steam release instead, or the Rhapsody: Marl Kingdom Chronicles, from NIS America, for PS5 and Switch — both of which feature the second title in the series, with a brand new localisation.
