Ninja Baseball League-Man: Bases Loaded

Chances are, if I asked people to name an Irem arcade game, their first thought wouldn't be Ninja Baseball League-Man (otherwise known in the West as Ninja Baseball Bat Man).

Designed as Irem's answer to Konami's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade games, the game rather famously didn't do too well in the US at the time of its release, with much of its success being limited to Japan. This has led the creator of the game's concept, Drew Maniscalco, in the past to label the performance in the States "a disaster," with the designer attributing the poor performance to changing priorities at Irem America towards the console market (particularly the SNES), and a lack of investment in the game's marketing.

Despite that, though, the game has grown something of a respectable cult audience over the years, even receiving a comic from the former games journalist turned award-winning author Dave Cook a few years ago, leading some fans to hope for a proper video game revival.

If that happens to be you, it seems your prayers could finally be answered, as City Connection has just surprised everyone by announcing it is planning to revive Irem's 1993 beat 'em up, Ninja Baseball League-Man, in the form of an HD remake for Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. The remake will release on December 10th, 2026, and will cost 4,180 yen.

A physical edition is also being offered for PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 for 5,500 yen, with a fanbook and soundtrack included for those who pre-order.

According to the Steam page, the game will support up to four players and will include a new "high-difficulty arranged mode," new minigames, and a freshly arranged soundtrack from composer Yosuke Yasui (with players also being able to toggle between the original and remade score).

Here's a quick overview:

"The righteous "League-Man" step up to retrieve the stolen Golden Baseball Statue from the Baseball Hall of Fame!

Chain together exhilarating combos with rapid button mashes, execute wild throw moves after grabbing opponents, and wipe out incoming enemies with flashy special moves triggered by a single button!

"Pink," who was only a support character in the original, makes a long-awaited debut as a playable character. Experience newly reborn action in brilliant Full HD!"

The Steam page lists English, French, Spanish, Chinese (simplified/traditional), Japanese, and Korean among the available languages.
