Update [Wed 21st Aug 2024 14:00]: A Steam page is now live for City Connection's Rushing Beat X: Return of Brawl Brothers (as spotted by Gosokkyu), allowing you to finally wishlist the game.
The store page lists English language options (alongside Japanese, French, German, and Spanish), and also includes a vague "coming soon" message in place of a more specific release date.
According to City Connection, the story of the game will help to bridge the gap between the second game in the series Rushing Beat Ran — Fukusei Toshi / Brawl Brothers and the third title Rushing Beat Shura / The Peace Keepers.
Here are some of the new screenshots, which were shared on Steam:
Original Article [Thu 21st Sep, 2023 10:45 BST]: City Connection and Clear River Games have announced that they are creating a sequel to Jaleco's Rushing Beat / Brawl Brothers / Rival Turf series, called Rushing Beat X: Return of Brawl Brothers.
It's due for release in 2024. No platforms have been confirmed as yet, but a Switch version is highly likely.
Here's some PR:
Clear River Games, a video game publisher specialising in classic and retro games and part of Embracer Freemode, today announced RUSHING BEAT X: Return of Brawl Brothers, a brand-new episode in the legendary RUSHING BEAT franchise!
Better known to western audiences as ‘Rival Turf’, RUSHING BEAT was originally developed by Jaleco, with City Connection now leading development after they acquired rights to all Jaleco IP. RUSHING BEAT has been scratching the brawler itch of gamers since 1992 when the game first appeared on the Super Nintendo® Entertainment System. Now, more than thirty years later, ‘The Peace Keepers’ are back as the franchise is reborn for modern consoles!
Armed with a new fighting system allowing for a greater range of attack strategies and techniques, RUSHING BEAT X: Return of Brawl Brothers sees up to six playable characters take to the mean streets of Neo-Cisco as they battle to uncover the secrets of the odious Zeekus virus, and fight to discover what occurred on the mysterious island found floating above Neo-Cisco bay.
The Neo-Cisco heroes Rick Norton and Douglas Bild return to settle some scores, joined by new character Kahlua, a trainee working at Rick’s gym. More character details will be announced in due course, but gamers will have a huge array of new weapons, moves and skills at their disposal in this new instalment of the much-loved fighting franchise. Launch an aerial combo to clear the ground of enemies, throw your opponent to clear the path ahead, or activate Rage Mode if you take too much damage, giving you a brief burst of over-the-top power to even the odds!
RUSHING BEAT X: Return of Brawl Brothers is expected to be released in 2024 and will be published by Clear River Games across North America and the EU.
Rushing Beat began life on the SNES in 1992, and was localised for North America as Rival Turf! in the same year. The sequel, Rushing Beat Ran — Fukusei Toshi (1992), was released in the West as Brawl Brothers in 1993, while the third game, Rushing Beat Shura (1993), came to North America under the title The Peace Keepers in 1994. Phew!
City Connection will also be showing off Assault Suit Leynos 2 and Formation Z at TGS 2023.

I'll care if a SNES version is announced.
Bought this when I first got a super famicom it’s definitely one of the worst beat em ups on the snes it’s like a lame final fight
At first I thought this was actually coming to SNES!! Gutted
I never thought I'd see a crossover between the website formerly known as Twitter and the most mid-tier fighting / beat-'em-up series on the SNES
I like this better than the working title:
Rushing Beat X: The Website Formerly Known as Twitter.
As a fan of the original game, I'm excited about this, but I don't really care about the graphic style, because it seems to affect the general speed of the sprites for some reason, as in Double Dragon Neon or Raging Justice.
@JJtheTexan
dangit i didn't see your comment first 😆
I'm glad this is a continuation of the series and not just a remake.
Yeah not really feeling the ps2 era, cell shading on this. Gameplay seems a bit sluggish as well. but I'm a fan of this series, and will give it a try anyway. at a discount of course. 😏
The original snes games aren't the best, but this look like it could be decent. I don't mind the polygonal graphics, almost reminds me of Dynamite Cop on dreamcast.
I'm still waiting for a continuation of the Final Fight series since we're in the mood to resuscitate ALL the beat'em ups of that era. I won't rule this one out, but I'll need a review first.
The 3D graphics are horrible, they should use 2D like street of rage 4 or river city girls 😕
@-wc- lol great minds!
I’ll give this a shot but the original trilogy are pretty so so. I don’t love this graphics style but I don’t like the originals too much either. Hopefully this will end up a positive surprise.
I was only joking when I mentioned Brawl Brothers the other day in the Eternal Champions movie announcement article. Funny world!
Final Fight 4 next please!
The second and third games aren't bad at all, and they have some interesting gimmicks setting them aside from the average Final Fight clone.
The problem is that the Western releases were heavily butchered to the degree of Streets of Rage 3. The localizers of Peace Keepers were convinced that Americans hate anything resembling anime, so they replaced the anime-style portraits with something out of Mortal Kombat. Special attacking based on East Asian mythological creatures? Nah let's replace it with characters shouting words. And that's not mentioning the removal of entire cutscenes and enemies, cut the number of continues, and replace the music with ambient background noise.
I would blame TimeExtension, but apparently City Connection and Clear River Games also don't know the genre of the game they are making and announcing.
The original 3 games (and this one) are beat 'em ups. They are not fighters.
