Retroid Pocket 3 Announced, And It Looks Sort Of Familiar

Retroid has announced the latest model of its Retroid Pocket Pocket handheld, the Retroid Pocket 3, and no, your eyes aren't playing tricks on you - it looks exactly like a Nintendo Switch Lite (h/t: Retro 91 & Notebook Check).

It has the same sleek design, a variety of playful colour schemes (including a SNES-inspired one), and even boasts the same YXAB button layout, which is admittedly carried over from the Retroid Pocket 2.

The device is being marketed as a larger and thinner alternative to the Retroid Pocket 2, with it measuring 184.65 x 81.38 x 24.23mm compared to the previous console's 150 x 81 x 30mm. These changes will hopefully make it more comfortable to hold in your hands, with the original Retroid Pocket 2 square-like shape feeling kind of clunky in comparison to other, more high-end devices.

It's not just the look that has changed, however, with the Retroid Pocket 3 boasting a couple of performance upgrades from the Retroid Pocket 2, to help with emulating your favourite retro titles.

These come courtesy of a new Android 11 OS and a UNISOC Tiger T310 system on chip featuring one ARM Cortex-A75 CPU core clocked at 2 GHz, as well as another three ARM Cortex-A55 cores that top out at 1.8 GHz. That's without mentioning the PowerVR GE8300 GPU running at 800 MHz.

It's important to note that this system on chip is the same one you'll currently find on the advanced Retroid Pocket 2+ model, which we hate to say dampens our excitement just a tad. Nevertheless, the new device will also feature an increased display size of 4.7 inches over the Retroid Pocket 2+ model's 3.5 inches and comes with an improved display resolution of 750 x 1334 pixels compared to the Retroid 2+'s 640x480 pixels, giving us a few reasons to hand over our cash.
