Re: Sega's Western CEO Isn't Interested In Saturn And Dreamcast Mini Consoles

Sigh. Sega confuses me i love Sega to death. But to come out and say this kinda thing... Such a disappointment. Like how many renditions of the Sega Generations collecions did we get over the years? Like 28,900 ports across all the platforms?
Sega has particularly screwed America specifically. Back in the Saturn days, you had to know how or where to import those games. And you needed an extra RAM cartridge for some games! SOA was just ***** in bringing out games here to the west mostly because they simply didn't have faith in a lot of Japanese titles. Plus with a lot of games on their competing PS1 platform pushing 3D games for the most part. While Saturn had a lot of 3D games too, it seemed Sega didn't want to run the riak of bringing out too many 2D games, which were plentiful in Japan. SOA didnt want to localize these for mainly that reason.
Now they're saying they dont want to even look back an era that not only had some amazing games, but instead Sega just wants to continue to ignore that era entirely. Its like they are embarrassed by their own failure at marketing the Saturn.

Hell, Id even just take ported emulators as DLC on modern consoles! Upscale them, a we'll all be happy with that!

I'm not surprised at all. Sega of America thought they knew what was best, but they really didnt. I was a huge Sega fan in the 90's, and when I started hearing about what titles we were missing out on that were available in Japan, it really started to frustrate me. Especially when the Saturn came out. The Saturn was the absolute king of arcade fighting game ports, but only if you knew a good importer. SOA was too controlling, they refused to localize so many titles. I think mostly it was because many of these ports required the RAM expansion cartridge, so I always assumed that SOA just were apprehensive about selling the idea of needing RAM expansion to play certain games.
I blame Bernie Stolar for crippling the Saturn, thus creating a failing situation for the Dreamcast. People lost faith in Sega.

@Elock it had a ton of quality games. Just none in the Western markets because Sega of America lost faith in the platform and they thought only 3D games would be the best sellers, meanwhile they never let the plethora of fantastic 2D games from Japan to be localized here.
If you were a fan of 2D games especially fighting games during that era, the Saturn was the console to have.

Man, the Saturn was my jam! So many great games on it. Sadly I was always mad at Sega of America for their lack of initiative and fear of bringing out anything that might look like an "add-on" for the Saturn. So we never got great arcade ports like some of the Metal Slug games or fighters like Waku Waku 7, anything that required the RAM cartridge to play.
If you are like me, thr majority of your games you had were imported, because they had some amazing titles that simply never made it here.

SOA dropped the ball. Thats why I think Saturn was relegated to third place and why the Dreamcast didnt have enough Sega fans to be a success.
