Fresh on the heels of the announcement that Dominik Diamond is holding a special event featuring songs based on famous video games, the former GamesMaster host has been revealed as one of the many star attendees at this year's PLAY Expo in Blackpool, UK.
"He’ll be taking to the stage for a talk followed by a Q&A, before heading over to the meet & greet area, so if you’ve got an old GamesMaster magazine, book, or piece of gaming history you’ve been waiting to get signed, this is your chance," says the official PLAY Expo site.
Diamond will also be performing his aforementioned 'Dominik Diamond Sings the Video Games' gig at the close of the expo.
"I cannot wait for PLAY Expo in Blackpool, my favourite of all the ‘pools," Diamond tells Time Extension, before adding:
"I am expecting multiple memories from moist-eyed individuals whose exposure to the show has not seemed to have dimmed their rise to being fully functioning adults; some may even be parents. Or captains of industry. Or military frogmen. Who knows with the GamesMaster generation, eh?
Also looking forward to meeting people who have enjoyed my Guardian columns over the years. Because I like the company of intellectuals. That’s why we had Mr Motivator on GamesMaster.
And then the DD SINGS THE VIDEO GAMES show… well what can I say about that? A slew of self-penned songs with comic chat in between about all the games we have loved. Heart-rippingly poignant yet funny too - It’s like Les Misérables without the French stuff."
Replay Events boss Andy Brown had this to say about securing Diamond for the event:
“I’m absolutely over the moon we have Dominik Diamond at PLAY Expo Blackpool this October. For many people who grew up watching GamesMaster in the 90s it was so much more than a TV show. Chaotic, iconic even anarchic at times, it transitioned video games out of the bedroom and into the mainstream. It was the must watch show for a generation of gamers and Dominik was at the helm of all of this. It’s fair to say he’s consistently been one of the most requested guests for PLAY Expo over the last 16 years so we’re delighted he’s finally able to join us!”
Eugene Jarvis (Defender and Robotron 2084 creator) is also attending this year's event, and will be interviewed live on stage by retro gaming legend Paul Drury, who has just written a book about arcade gaming. Those who attend the event will get the chance to obtain a copy signed by Drury and Jarvis.
PLAY Expo takes place at the Norbreck Castle Exhibition Centre on the 3rd and 4th of October, and is the UK's biggest retro gaming show.
