Here's something unexpected to end the week: Analogue has just announced refreshes of its FPGA-SNES & Mega Drive consoles, the Super Nt & Mega Sg, with pre-orders set to kick off at the beginning of next week.

The Super Nt was originally released in 2017 and was able to play your older SNES cartridges, while the Mega Sg was announced in 2018 and was designed to be a new way to play your Sega Mega Drive / Genesis games.

Both consoles were ultimately discontinued in 2022.

The Super Nt+ & Mega Sg+, as these new versions are called, will be available to pre-order from Monday, October 19th, 2026 at 8 a.m. PDT on Analogue's website, and are expected to ship this December.

As revealed in the announcement, they will be built on "FPGA architecture engineered in-house from scratch," and will come with new features such as "Bluetooth and 2.4G" functionality, a "reworked industrial design, OS, and packaging." In addition to that, another one of the major changes listed on the website is that both consoles will now feature a USB-C power input and a USB-A port for "more convenient DAC support."

"Introducing Super Nt+ and Mega Sg+," Analogue's Twitter/X announcement reads. "The definitive way to play original Super Nintendo, Super Famicom, Sega Genesis, Mega Drive, and Master System.

"Beginning with Super Nt in 2017, the originals set a new standard for video game preservation. Nearly a decade later, they return. Super Nt+ & Mega Sg+. Definitive, all over again."
