Update []: Limited Run is handling distribution for Earnest Evans (1991) and Anett Returns / Anett Futatabi (1993). This is the first time these two games have been available on Sega CD in English (Earnest Evans got a Genesis / Mega Drive release back in the day, however).
You can pre-order the titles using the link in the social media post below.
Original Story: Edia, the Japanese company behind recent re-releases of Valis and Tenshi No Uta has teased another new retro project, this time based on Wolf Team's "Anett and Earnest" trilogy.
This series includes the Genesis game El Viento (1991) and the Sega CD titles Earnest Evans (1991) and Anett Futatabi (1993).
Nothing beyond a piece of artwork has been shown so far, showing the three games mentioned above.
El Viento and Earnest Evans are both action platformers, while Anett Futatabi is a side-scrolling fighter.
El Viento received a North American release via Renovation Products, and Earnest Evans was also released in the region by the same company – although it was ported to the Genesis rather than the Sega CD, which meant the removal of cutscenes (animated by Japanese studio Madhouse) and the CD-quality music.
El Viento was recently reissued on the Genesis by Retro-Bit Gaming. The original Japanese version is one of the console's more collectable titles.

Earnest Evans was weird with its gameplay and I can understand why it never received a PAL release.
WAIT OMG I LOVE THIS TRILOGY ITS MAKING A COMEBAC-
“Edia, the Japanese company behind recent re-releases of Valis and Tenshi No Uta-“
…Oh.
@slider1983 Earnest Evans was honestly ahead of its time, imo it’s the Freddy got fingered of video games since it predicted the recent slew of games all about overcoming weird janky physics like sprint, getting over it, steppy pants, goat simulator etc. always respected it for how weird and experimental it was.
Anne Futatabi just plain sucks though that game has 0 redeemable qualities outside of the cutscenes😂
Id love to get a re-release of the Sega CD with translated cutscenes, and maybe some QOL updates.
Oh god it’s Edia these rereleases are gonna be 60 dollars each aren’t they
@PinballBuzzbro Yep the inflated price is really annoying, especially compared to Ratalaika which offers other classics of the era like Shockman for a fraction of the price.
Man, that old school anime is still top tier!!
@PinballBuzzbro $60 each, or $140 for the two (go figure).
I hate to think of what this would cost in Canada, once you factor in taxes, shipping, and exchange rate. Well over $200 for sure. Probably around $250.
And these aren't even good games!
(I actually would be interested in playing these, partially as a curiosity, and partially because of the music. But that's more in $5-10 Steam release territory. There are much better things I could be spending my money on!)
Never been a fan of the weird animations and gameplay on Ernest Evans, but Annet Returns looks like it could be fun.
Brawlers a always appreciated. The question is: Does it have an elevator level? If not, no buy.
Anett Again/Returns is a genuinely horrible game. Don't be fooled by its exotic origins, it looks and plays like a dev team making a zero budget MD launch title.
Off brand and off region, no thanks.
