@Zach I really hate it when games get delisted from eshop, reminds me of how annoying it was trying to buy games such as fire emblem revelation before the eshop closed a few years ago,
@brakeman90 as a retro gamer myself, some games were certainly censored because of the strict censorership Nintendo used to have under Hiroshi Yamauchi, final fantasy 4 had some less revealing outfits as a result, other companies had similar policies but what I'm mentioning in particular is modern politics inserted into games.
In the case of a game such as Xenogears, the fans argue that it wouldn't be worth remastering that game due to the fact that there is so much content that would be 'considered' controversial today look at the wikipedia page for the game and you will see what I mean.
Without breaking forum rules I will briefly explain, look at what happened to dragonquest 3 HD remaster and the removal of certain language in the game due to modern politics.
Booting up a retro console experience such as a Wii to play the old Fire Emblems reminds me of the pure gameplay that the older titles had in the past, no sim elements but pure strategy.
The lastest fire emblem game was censored and ruined the experience.
In addition that category of young males you mentioned should be able to feel included in the gaming world just as much as any demographic, this is particularly why some games fail because they alient young men in particular who are just looking for fun.
@Sketcz , thank you so much for sharing what life was like before the Internet, as someone who all what I know is post 2000s, I really yearn for the pre Internet era; games such as Final Fantasy 4, which has a classic medieval Knight saving a princess story and the theme of love song inspired good virtue in the player, in addition games such as Mario sunshine were perfect stress relivers; Zelda Ocarina of Time made the player long for adventure in real life.
The prices for new games is really steep £60 for NS2 games is really expensive.
Healthy debate is essential for a prospering society, not everyone has to agree on everything but being able to have creative freedom in gaming media and in real life is very important for a civilised society.
@Sketcz I'm a gen z, so I missed that era, but it sounds so cool, a era where there was more money around for spending on games and snacks and the era of gaming magazines where players would submit their discoveries in a game, I remember someone telling me about a secret discovery in a sonic game on the Sega megadrive that only he knew about at the time and he told the magazine about it.
Sometimes the magazine would publish these finds too.
It's still early days with the switch 2 but I really miss the past era of gaming when there was decent games to save towards and look forward too.
Also the lack of negativity in the 90s and 80s sounds so awesome.
@Sketcz I agree with everything you said, sometimes I really wish I could have been alive in the 90s to play Zelda Ocarina of time on N64, Final Fantasy 6/7 and Xenogears PS1 when they all came out in the mid to late 90s.
Xenogears and final fantasy 7 are perfect examples of creative freedom, xenogears explored religious themes while final fantasy 7 was able to express its characters and story without being restricted by modern politics.
I hate online gaming, I used to play splatoon on Wii u in 2015 but I gave up on the 3rd entry because it felt stale and it is a shame that when there is a fun online game like splatoon 1 it gets forever taken offline (2024).
Also zelda totk, I played a lot but eventually the things I liked about the game got patched out and then i dropped it, Mario kart world had a similar issue.
In addition with Xbox comes with an all digital gamepass where players don't actually own anything.
@brakeman90 final fantasy 7 rebirth removed some of tifas outfits and made fans upset, retro games are really fun for a variety of reasons, they are unique and were non political so anybody could enjoy them, another example is a game called Concord for PS5 that failed, look it up online.
We shouldn't go off topic too much because I got some comments removed.
@Jackburton1985 what makes gaming special from 1970s-2010s, it was pure entertainment and no politics, which meant anyone with an intrust in gaming could pick up any game and enjoy it.
This is why retro games are so good and the bbc needs to stay out.
Final fantasy is an excellent example it was good up till X, 2001, then it fell apart and became rubbish.
@YANDMAN 100% agreed, whether it is events happening in the real world or retro games the BBC keeps on making mistakes and can't get a single thing correct about anything, you should look on YouTube for the many videos explaining this.

Apart from JRPGs the rest of modern gaming sucks.
