Geez. Hollywood knows how to shake the rattle with their awful choices. And to think they were championing "diversity" with their DEI policies. I guess it's easier said than done. Casting a white guy for an Asian role is just lazy whitewashing.
They can't even find a proper Asian actor to play Dan Hibiki; they take the easy route and cast a white guy for Dan. Wow, so much for "diversity", Hollywood. No wonder fan filmmakers do better adaptations than you.
No matter, at least 'Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist' still exists, as that is the best live-action Street Fighter movie we got.
@BulkSlash if you have the time, I'd recommend you watch 'Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist'. It's an independently made film/web series in partnership with CAPCOM. Assassin's Fist is essential if you're a die-hard Street Fighter fan who loves the in-game lore. It's available on Prime Video in the US and DVD/Blu-ray.
Honestly, hiring the man behind Assassin's Fist will only mean good things for Legendary's movie if they're aiming for a great video game movie adaptation. But knowing what & how Hollywood is like behind the scenes, they're too hard-headed in making things their way, hence why most video game movies fail. If they allowed talented filmmakers with love and passion for the source material to have full directorial control of the production, we'd have great video game movies and shows.
Honestly, Legendary should just get Joey Ansah, the man who did the "Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist" movie/web-series, and they won't have to worry about finding some director who barely knows anything about Street Fighter.
Get Joey Ansah in the director's chair as he has proven himself worthy with fans that he is capable of handling live-action Street Fighter with genuine care.
