I remember this magazine so clearly, especially that first issue. I definitely didn't buy them all, with pocket money you had to choose between that getting that or GamesMaster, OPS2M etc. I definitely remember buying issue 34 as well though. Looking it up now (via archive.org) and that Cheats Unlimited advert right at the beginning brings back so many memories of so many magazines I flicked through.
I can't wait to get mine. It's my first foray into MiSTer emulation because it's such a good little package. I wasn't remotely tempted prior to the SuperStation's announcement. I'm sure I'm not the only one and I hope Taki Udon one day takes some real pride from this project - even if he's probably sick of the sight of it right now!
Ordered the book and can't wait to get it. Aside from the bloodless alternate advert there was also an airbrushed censored version of the main ad (you can see it for yourself: Google - Game Pro Issue 78 archive.org - then flick to page 72) which didn't make any sense in the 'A Dangerous Game' theme as it's now just 2 people sitting side-by-side!
@Kandowontu I appreciate you posting this video, it did clarify things. Though RHDN will always hold a place in my heart (the same for a lot of us I'm sure, I even downloaded many of your excellent FastROM hacks from there back in the day), I wish RHDO the best and hope the scene continues to grow.
A true shame. ROM hacks add so many QoL features or translations that they are necessary (along with the silly ROM hacks which still have their place). There are hacks for example which remove strobe flashes in the game so people with epilepsy can safely play them.
