I'm a professional software engineer by trade. I've been a reader of Time Extension for a number of years and have been featured in articles you've written for Nintendo Life. I like this place.
To be fair, I do concede your point of "yet you participate in society". But at the same time, I also worry Time Extension's edge does exactly what you're afraid the AI slop projects do. This tooling is now ubiquitous among professionals, and if disclosure-as-headline-news is the trend, I'm afraid it'll turn those serious professionals away.
Regardless, I always appreciate a more cerebral discussion in a comments section of all places. Thanks for your work on Time Extension and Hookshot's other outlets.
@Thad Nowhere in my post did I compare security audits to code translation. I directly stated Claude and Codex are contributing code to Linux. And I brought receipts.
I also stated Time Extension itself runs on infrastructure that accepts AI-generated code contributions.
I also suggested this article is a ragebait piece because the author misattributed a product multiple times to the wrong vendor.
There's a bite to Time Extension's reporting, and it shows here. Codex isn't an Anthropic product.
I don't like AI, and I think it's ruining the world. But there's also a truth in that almost no professional software development is being done without some form of AI assistance nowadays, and just because Claude or Codex are marked as a contributor to a project does not necessarily mean the whole thing is vibe coded. I worry reporting like what Time Extension does is almost like a hit piece, and it could turn real professional software engineers away from wanting to contribute to the hobby.

These are nontrivial changes in software that powers virtually every server in the world, including the one Time Extension itself is hosted on.
Time Extension runs on an nginx server. Claude is contributing changes to nginx.
Time Extension uses PHP-FPM under the hood. Codex is being used to audit PHP-FPM for security vulnerabilities.
There is a spectrum of AI assistance that ranges from vibe coding on one end to agentic engineering and agentic assistance on the other. My perception is Time Extension recklessly paints all professional developers using these tools with the same brush.
