Many modern games are absolutely bloated with unnecessary mechanics, and some of those same games limit their potential as games by doubling down on QoL features without the developers even questioning if they actually harm the gameplay loop.
Gameboy at its best is an example that focused game design with a clear goal is more important than budget or technology.
@KingMike Legend of Heroes has the 'best' English dub of all time. Really wish it was included too, it's dated for sure, but I'm sure there would be some mild interest in it given the popularity of the franchise since Trails in the Sky.
This console should get a bit more attention if only to put history into better perspective.
For example, I have seen people claim that even in the NES era Nintendo was considered unpowered since the Master System was more powerful. In actuality, this was the device Sega used to compete with the Famicom.
As someone who collects consoles, however, this doesn't interest me. Being hard to find doesn't help either.
@roadrunner343 Also a good point, surprised I didn't think that since I have a plug-and-play Master System and Genesis, which are really just chips loaded with a bunch of roms. Same goes for NES and SNES.
In the defense of Rom usage, it's not like there are no illegal ways to obtain Roms. Sega and Atari straight up sell ROMs of their older games on Steam. What's stopping anyone from converting them into more accessible formats and using them in Flash Carts?
And we learned that Nintendo doesn't do much to change the roms they sell via virtual console, as long as nothing is being distributed is there anything illegal about changing the file to work on a PC/Flash Cart emulator?

Re: This $75 Handheld Could Be The Best Way To Emulate Nintendo DS In 2025
@GravyThief Every every DS Lite I have bought has had dead pixels. Personally I'm just tired of the gamble.

Re: Feature: What Makes A Person Sell Their Entire Retro Games Collection?
I probably have somewhere between 200 - 300 physical games across a dozen consoles. Obviously, I don't give equal attention to all of these.
I don't see myself selling them anytime soon, but I might when I get old. Might end up help funding my retirement.
Re: Modern Mega Drive Platformer Tanglewood Has Finally Gone Gold
Do the versions on Steam and Gog include the game's rom file?
They mention they are going to have it running on a custom emulator.
Re: Alex Kidd In Miracle World Was Supposed To Be A Dragon Ball Game
I found Miracle World to be pretty hard. Barely got to the second level.
Maybe I'll try it again.

Re: Feature: The Making Of Red Alarm, The Virtual Boy's Answer To Star Fox
I'd love a remake of Red alarm... maybe in color so I can see the walls.
Re: The Retro VGS Wants To Revive The Glory Days Of Cartridge-Based Home Consoles
I'm on the edge here. I love cartridges... but trying it it todays market?
Show me Shovel Knight and maybe I'll chip it, but I don't see a bright future for this...
