A royally good read! Thank you TE for setting this up, and Leslie for agreeing to do it. A fascinating window into a fascinating period of Nintendo’s development!
Part of me fears this would have been even derpier than the infamous Donkey Kong animated series, but we’ll never know. It’s a pity we’ve barely heard a peep out of the bear and the bird since.
So it seems the answer to the question posed by the title is “almost certainly not”, but it was a fun read anyway! Certainly something neat to imagine when next crossing the Kamo River.
Kamo River…
Duck River…
Wait, DID KYOTO’S FAMOUS RIVER INSPIRE DUCK HUNT!?!?
This looks cute and whack and charming as anything. Having just heard about it, I’ll need a little more convincing before throwing down money on yet another console, but I’ll be watching it with intrigue and wishing it every success. I’m glad oddball surprises like this are still a feature in the gaming landscape!
The game development tool is really cool too. Currently really looking forward to Game Builder Garage, and who knows, maybe it’ll kindle a flame!
Lovely write-up, Jon. Nice to get a Tokyo/Japan based article with a personal touch - especially when it's all too easy to just repeat 'JAPAN GETS ALL THE BEST THINGS' ad nauseam with little extra insight.
Would be interested to know more about the drinks menu!

Speaking of birds, it’s not “one fowl swoop”, nor “one foul swoop”, but “one fell swoop”.
