That's a fair point, but as someone who has worked in a machine shop, it's expensive, but not that expensive. It's a fair amount of man-hours for materials, CNC milling, anodizing, screen printing, mounting everything into the new housing and the button mods and speaker upgrades (including the cost of the buttons and speakers) and QC checks afterwards. Add that to the small order quantity and yeah, $300 sounds about right.
