The guy in charge is an eccentric Sega fan (is there any other kind?) from a rural town in Spain. I think although he knows it's a scam, he's convinced himself what he's doing is ok. Maybe he's even lied to himself so much he's convinced himself he'll actually end up making the device and it's all just proof of concept so far and that eventually he'll actually make it.
Either that or he is so naive (like a lot of scammers) that he thinks he'll genuinely get away with a big score, and he's promised his friends, the others involved, of a huge payout.
What an A-hole. But this world is built for people like him so I guess he'll be alright. I wish someone with the clout and determination like GamersNexus would run this story and build some momentum and pressure.
@slider1983 the current guess is that he's running a customised software emulation frontend on the sly.
Other evidence I have seen or seen commented elsewhere:
There is a lack of tracers coming from the HDMI port and other components. Implying those components are not even connected. People claiming to be engineers online have said while the HDMI port has a very low chance of having a rare configuration, other components and tracers are missing elsewhere that makes it undeniable the thing isn't actually operating.
You can see it plugged in to mains but you can't see what's behind the TV and he doesn't show the video line traced all the way into the TV.
when he plugs in a cartridge you can hear a mouse clicking. This could be someone off camera activating the bit that says "cart in"
The video cuts on bootup in the first video
The input lag. FPGA isn't supposed to have input lag. Of course if he's making these cores himself there could be issues there but the input lag is consistent with something like a Raspberry Pi Nano's emulator performance.
At one point in the video the fan is still running with the power switched turned to the off position.
Who knows, they could be some rare messy genius that will prove us all wrong. But there's far too many red flags people have pointed out to treat this with any kind of excitement except to see whether a load of people lose their money.
@slider1983 other people that know way more than me have seen it and said that the board doesn't even have the right capacitors on it. As in, it's a blank board they bought online and made it look like they're working on something. Apparently they have a no refund policy too. Scam all the way
Although these things are still niche, the ever growing prevalence of cannibalisation seems at odds with how strongly people say they feel about preservation.
Although I know some people try to cannibalise irreparable items.
I'd hate to be friends with one of these people. Everything anyone said would have some kind of hidden trasngressional meaning.
Also, what wrong with Dhalsim being so devout that he wears skulls? Boy I'd sure prefer to play as an IT Engineer from Dheli, that'd be sooooo cooooool 🤣
Or wait... Is that offensive too? Perhaps the only acceptable representation is one that completely confounds expectations? Until that becomes the status quo? I dunno, these mental gymnastics are exhausting.
@Scollurio while I agree to an extent, it's also a bit more complex. Most of us if we're around 35 still feel what it's like the have a singular narrative via television and the charts etc. Now you have to look elsewhere online to find many trends all going on at the same time. Maybe the mainstream seems stagnat, because they always have leeched off real people living real lives.
Throughout gaming history there has been creative people battling against corporate interests. Sometimes both sides stood to learn a lesson.
If you feel dissatisfied now ask yourself what you are expecting from those People, what stories can they tell you. Are they worthwhile? Do you feel enriched? Evaluate what you get out of it Vs what you put in. Is it really worth the stress? Maybe it would just be better to muck around with a few friends and forget the fact that you have to work tomorrow.
Get ready for the Fighting Game bubble to burst. It's already a niche and there's now tons of them, including indie titles. No way to stretch the player base that thin.

Re: "The Project Is A Complete Scam" - The Internet Isn't Convinced By The SuperSega FPGA Console
@UK_Kev
Here's the story I've written.

Re: Anniversary: The Best Burnout Turns 20 This Month
Clickbait article, this isn't about Burnout 2! 😜
Re: Time Crisis Is Coming To Modern TVs Thanks To A Plug-And-Play, AI-Powered Light Gun
As far as I understand it, the Sinden still has more lag than the original lightguns. So I'm interested to see how this pans out.

Re: This Dreamcast VMU Plays Sega Genesis Games
But it's basically not a DC VMU but a completely different thing that happens to look and function like one also.
Re: Review: TapTo NFC Loading System - Gives MiSTer FPGA A Vital Physical Connection
@Poodlestargenerica but historically materialism has been an idea that your worth is based on the items you posses,.
This new wave of physical applications is just the joy of physicality and the tactile.
For a lot of people, touch is very important. It grounds them to reality and enhances their experiences.
So I think you're conflating two things.

I'm more offended by the games Title and text which is about as inspired as AI. Maybe they're going for the "NES bootleg" feel.
