Always had the rubbish Sega Saturn version/s. The best thing about the ports were the Soundtrack but likewise half the fun of playing WipEout was the link to yoof culture and the cool DJ's & dance acts in the original. The Saturn version just looked a bit janky with its mesh transparancies and low framerate.
I eventually got a psx for 2097 Grand Turismo & GTA and realised that i wasent missing out a huge amount and went back to import Saturn Grandia, Dragon Force & looking at pictures of Enemy Zero in Saturn Power Magazine.
Still think the late 90s were the best time to be alive regardless.
