Dreamcast and PlayStation homebrew aficionado Elias Daler has revealed that they are currently looking to build their own PS1 Software Development Kit (SDK) in what will be a "100% AI-free" project.

Daler, who has contributed PlayStation mod projects to the homebrew scene, notes that they will be attempting to build the SDK in C+++ language, though admits that they have something of a momentous task ahead of them.

"Still not sure if I’ll succeed," admitted Daler on Twitter/X. "But if I see at least some part of Yume Nikki PS run on it, I’ll be extremely happy," referencing the surreal, dreamlike PC adventure materialised in 2004, before receiving an officially published release on Steam in 2018.

Last week, Daler was featured in Time Extension headlines with the opening of a new Discord server dedicated to the sharing, discussion, and championing of AI-free homebrew projects. "Humanbrew" opened its doors on October 28 and already has just shy of 1,200 members. While the AI-driven, "conveyor belt" mentality has led to some abandoning the hobby entirely, projects such as Humanbrew and this PlayStation SDK serve as community-focused inspiration.

Of course, the purpose of this news piece is not to put any undue pressure on Daler, who themselves have noted that they are unsure of the result. But the project is a reminder that the hobbyists were the architects of the scene long before the bots rolled in, and while the plagiarism and fast-food approach to homebrew is understandably frustrating for some, the passion and talent of the key community endures.
