Columbus Circle, continuing to proudly wave the Famicom flag, has announced that Soft House's 1991 Famicom title Snow Bros. is getting a brand new physical re-release, expected to hit the Japanese market next month.

Columbus Circle's rerelease will include a boxed Famicom cartridge, sporting cute new artwork reminiscent of the golden era of arcade gaming and around 1000% less cursed than that used for the 2024 Nintendo Switch release, Snow Bros. Wonderland. In addition, Columbus Circle will be releasing a Limited Edition Snow Bros. variant of its handheld Famicom console, the 8-bit Pocket V2.

Based on Toaplan's 1990 arcade hit, Snow Bros. is a single-screen platformer in which two heroes (Nick and Tom in the Famicom port) are transformed into Snowmen by an evil wizard. Unperturbed, the brothers sally forth into a Cave of Monsters cavern of enemies, using their newfound powers to put the bad guys on ice and rescue their imprisoned girlfriends.

Literally the plot of Bubble Bobble, but with snowmen instead of dinosaurs.

Snow Bros. gameplay also follows similar beats to Taito's 1986 bubble-blasting classic, with Nick and Tom clearing colourful, maze-like stages, turning enemies into snowballs before sending them careening off of the screen, avalanche-style. Bonus stages and a series of boss battles await the duo as they (ice) pick their way through the game's 50 levels.

The Snow Bros. Famicom rerelease and the Snow Bros. 8-bit Pocket V2 are expected to ship in November. Both products are highly unlikely to see a global release, so interested parties will most likely have to go down the import route if they wish to bag themselves this particularly cool combo.
