Miki Higashino is rightly regarded as a legend in the video game music space, having been deeply involved in the creation of plenty of unforgettable soundtracks over the years.

At Konami, for instance, she was responsible for providing music for a number of the company's classic arcade games like Yie Ar Kung-Fu, Gradius, and Salamander (otherwise known as Life Force in North America), as well as the PlayStation RPGs Suikoden and Suikoden II, for which she is arguably best known today.

In the early 2000s, she left Konami and retired from the industry to raise her family, but has, fortunately for her fans, started making inroads back into the world of gaming over the last few years: from working on games like Bounty Sisters, Infinity Bullets, and the MSX2 title Nightstalkers to appearing as a guest at the Symphonic Poem from Genso Suikoden REMASTER concert in Tokyo and at the MSX2 GOTO40 celebration in Amsterdam. And now it seems she's making her return official, signing with the agency Scarlet Moon Artists and making herself available for commissions worldwide.

In other words, if you're an indie dev with a project that needs music, here's your chance to get a certified Konami legend on board.

Talking about why she decided to join Scarlet Moon, Higashino said in a press release, "I started keeping in touch with Shinji Hosoe again after I wrote the music for HexaDrive’s shooting action game, Infinity Bullets. Through him, I learned about Scarlet Moon and immediately realised that the company name was connected to Suikoden.

"For me, partnering with people who have such a deep love for Suikoden gave me a great sense of trust and comfort," she continued. "So I thought that partnering with Scarlet Moon, which is based in the U.S., might create new opportunities and connections for me. I’m a challenger, after all!"

Scarlet Moon's founder Jayson Napolitano also shared the following statement about Higashino joining the agency's roster of talent.

"We are beyond honoured to have Higashino-san's trust and partnership as we look for ways to bring her iconic sound to creators around the world. For those who are unaware, Scarlet Moon draws its name from the first Suikoden game, my personal favourite game in large part due to its incredible music.

"I often share that I approach my work largely as a fan, and take immense pleasure to facilitating our artists being able to express their art in service to game projects, so given our company's connection to Higashino-san's most iconic work, you can imagine our excitement to embark on this journey together."

To celebrate this news, Napolitano has shared a brief introductory interview with the composer, talking about her love of working on indie games and her favourite kinds of projects. In this, she states, she doesn't "need to score an entire game. I’d be happy to be a kind of relief pitcher—contributing just one track and bringing my own musical personality to the project."
