Publisher Clear River Games has revealed a physical collector's edition for its upcoming rerelease of the 1995 SNES RPG Terranigma. The "Gaia Edition" is now available to pre-order from the official Clear River Games store, ahead of the RPG's grand return on PC and consoles in January 2027.

The Gaia Edition includes a boxed, physical copy of the game on PS5, Xbox Series, or Nintendo Switch 2 (a physical Game Card), along with a selection of goodies including an original soundtrack CD, a cloth map, a 200-page art book, a pixel pin, and a steelbook casing, all housed in attractive, magnet-boxed packaging.

The centrepiece of the Gaia Edition is a cute mechanical music box, stylised after Terranigma's Pandora's Box and housing an equally cute figure of the mischievous but helpful demon, Yomi. Whether this version of Yomi can help you reorganise your bedroom clutter is debatable, but it's a fun ornament nonetheless.

The Gaia Edition retails for £168. If that's a little rich for your tastes, then steelbook (£55) and foiled standard (£34-38) editions are also available to pre-order on PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Developed by Quintet for SNES, Terranigma is a high-fantasy adventure that, in typical RPG style, sees a party of innocents tasked with bringing about the resurrection of the planet - caught in the aftermath of war between no less than God and the Devil themselves. Critically praised at launch, it's fair to say Terranigma sat in the background at release, somewhat shadowed by more instantly recognisable franchises, such as The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy.

Time has been very kind to Quintet's work, however, and Terranigma is today considered among the SNES' finest RPGs by contemporary critics and players - with close attention specifically paid to artist Kamui Fujiwara's excellent visual design, as well as Miyoko Takaoka and Masanori Hikichi's evocative score.

Clear River Games' rerelease will include an array of new features, including a smoother, overhauled inventory system, rewind and save state options, an on-screen mini-map, and custodial modes including a museum and music player.

For players who may have yet to experience Quintet's classic adventure, this edition will provide the perfect opportunity. And for dedicated Ark-heads, the Gaia Edition will provide a sense of physicality in an increasingly non-physical gaming sphere.
