It's been a long time since we last covered Ice Goat Games' Game Boy-inspired pirate indie game Draco and the Seven Scales — almost three years, in fact.

But after a fairly lengthy delay (the game was originally set to release in 2024), it appears its developers have finally hoisted the anchor and set sail, steering the good ship into the uncertain waters of the Steam storefront as of last week.

So, if you happen to have some timbers in need of shivering or a fondness for games like The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Oracle of Seasons, and Oracle of Ages, now's your chance to check out this cute pirate adventure and all it has to offer: from its retro-inspired graphics by the artist Manelzin to its soundtrack of "shanties," created by Tohomoko.

As outlined on its Steam page, Draco and the Seven Scales has players step into the role of a pirate captain on a quest to "save his greatest treasure of all," and has been built from the very start to hearken "back to an age of top-down dungeon crawlers and lovable, crunchy pixel art." Players will navigate a "sprawling world" filled with "dangerous enemies", over 15 "items to collect," and "a dark force that seeks to corrupt", with the story unfolding across 7 classic top-down dungeons.

Rather than simply exploring on foot, however, players will need to divide their time between land and sea, where they'll battle monsters, rival captains, and "Her Majesty's Royal Armada."

Currently, the game is available for £13.04 on Steam, as part of an introductory offer, with this deal expected to end on October 2nd, 2026. Two bundles are also available, with Ice Goat Games teaming up with the developer of Isle of Reveries (desertcucco) and Isles of Sea and Sky (Cicada Games) to tempt people further.
