Capcom is no slouch when it comes to pumping out brilliant video games, and that's as true now as it ever was. However, gamers of a certain vintage (like myself) will have a particular soft spot for the company's '90s output, which included everything from one-on-one fighters to belt-scrollers, shmups and puzzlers.
Forgotten Worlds is one of the many must-play games from Capcom's arcade golden era, and it was unique for combining eight-way movement with a rotatable button called a "roll switch," which let you fire in one of sixteen directions, independent of your character's movement.
If you've fond memories of this 1988 classic, then you might want to check out the free-to-play Infinity Bullets, a spiritual successor developed by HEXADRIVE Inc. for Android and iOS devices.
"Repeated attacks from the extraterrestrials known as the Futurians have brought the entire solar system, including Earth, to the brink of destruction," says the game's official site, before adding:
"The difference in military strength is night and day. Not only are the Futurian strategies unpredictable, but so are their locations and motives.
The fate of humanity as well as all the planets in the solar system are hanging by a thread. In the midst of this, a scientist who had been researching extraterrestrial life manages to discover and contain a special particle known as 'Clydonite'.
Using this, they succeed in developing a multipurpose tactical suit for use as a counter-weapon against the Futurians. The only person who can wear this suit is Max "Cannonball" Cunningham, a street racer from Detroit."
An update last year added more playable characters to the mix – Karen, $mash and Sharifa.
"I usually don't like/play mobile games, but Infinity Bullets by HEXADRIVE_Inc is an exception," says Pedro Soares, the source of this news story, on social media. "It's basically Forgotten Worlds on steroids and super addictive to boot, with amazing pixel art and a catchy soundtrack. I wish this were on console as a full-fledged game."
