Update [Mon 21st Oct, 2024 16:30 BST]: Pre-orders are now live. If you fancy trying to get your own, you should head over to Analogue's website, where you'll find options for black & white models both priced at $249.99.
The device is expected to ship in Q1 2025.
Original Article [Wed 16th Oct, 2024 16:00 BST]: Analogue has just lifted the lid on its FPGA-based N64 clone, the Analogue 3D. You'll be able to pre-order it on October 21st for $249.99.
The latest in a long line of FPGA-based consoles which includes the Mega Sg, Super Nt and Analogue Duo, the Analogue 3D is described as a "reimagining of the N64 in 4K resolution." The system makes use of the 220k LE Altera Cyclone 10GX FPGA chip, "the most powerful FPGA Analogue has ever used in a product."
It represents four years of "developing a perfect way to experience N64 in FPGA for absolute accuracy." The company claims that "100% compatibility has never been achieved until now."
The Analogue 3D will run physical N64 games from all regions and has four controller ports for original N64 pads. It will also support wireless pads via Bluetooth, and features dual-band WiFi connectivity.
If you don't fancy using your wired controllers, then you can pick up the 8BitDo 64 Controller. Boasting a Hall Effect analogue stick with an "original-style gate", the pad's firmware can be updated simply by plugging it into the Analogue 3D.

In terms of software, the Analogue 3D comes loaded with 3D OS, an evolution of the Analogue OS that ships with the Analogue Pocket and Analogue Duo. It's "filled with N64-specific features, developed for everyone who understands that the details define the experience."
Analogue has taken special care to ensure this new system looks as faithful as possible when running on a modern-day flat-screen TV. It has a "bespoke, purpose-built 4K upscaler", which offers a "faithful, lag-free way to re-experience the N64."

To top it all off, the Analogue 3D's 'Original Display Modes' are "virtually indistinguishable recreations of CRT displays to capture the warmth, depth, and texture in every frame," says the company. "The soft glow of phosphor, vibrant colors intersect with immersive scanlines and shadow masks. This isn't just upscaling - it's an unprecedented transformation."
FPGA is believed by many to offer a more faithful experience as the emulation takes place at a hardware rather than software level, and Analogue is keen to push this element of its new system. "No more incompatibilities found in software emulation like input lag, graphic/audio inaccuracies, timing/frame rate issues and more," it says. "For the first time, you can re-experience the N64 exactly as it was meant to be, without compromise."

I never really fell in love with the N64, but FPGA stuff blows my mind so I'm excited to hear what the reviews say.
Finally!! Day one. Can't wait!
(Would it hurt them to indicate shipping date? Before Christmas...? After? Who knows?!)
EDIT: Analogue have updated their store listing ahead of pre-order opening. The 3D will ship in Q1 2025.
@Damo You should mention that it supports Save States. I know the Analogue writeup doesn't mention it, but it's visible in the screenshots they've shared. It shows "Memories" and you can see "Save States".
Absolute hyperbole-filled spiel from Analogue as usual, bigging up their products like they're absolute perfection when the truth is they arrive half-baked and with plenty of bugs that they take months to fix, plus some that don't ever get fixed before they abandon the product altogether as they start work on the next one.
Kinda wish there was more color to it. The all black/white finish makes it feel sterile, and for a console design like the N64 I feel like that's the last thing you want from it.
I'm not as excited as I'd like to be - chalk it up to Analogue's inability to keep their products in good supply - but this is still pretty neat. Hope they can get to the Dreamcast at some point.
@zer0coast Analogue are far from perfect and do many things that irritate me, but the Analogue Pocket is absolutely brilliant.
I agree we'd all have a better product if Nintendo did it themselves... but er, they haven't? In fact the great Nintendo gave us crappy mini consoles with a handful of games.
At least Analogue are having a good go at this.
@N00BiSH I always thought they designed their stuff this way deliberately as it puts the focus on the Game. As in, the game stands out as the colour vs the backdrop.
Looks nice but waiting for better compatibility for the Mega SG. 😉
I expected this to be pricier than this. Given that the Super NT and Mega SG were in the $200 zone with a less powerful FPGA and no 4K output (and I believe no Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, either), I was anticipating a minimum of $300, maybe more. But at $250 this is very cost-competitive with original hardware and a digital mod, with lots of extra features on top.
Pretty compelling. I'm going to try for a preorder, crossing my fingers the whole time that I can get in.
Dammit I’m gonna struggle to say no to this!
Looks really cool, and I have a huge N64 collection, but these days I just play N64 games on my MiSTer. It's way too convenient.
Cheaper than I expected honestly.
@nocdaes Agreed, the Pocket is good but it took a long time to get there. The promised feature rollout was very slow. I pity anyone who bought it and had had to wait almost three years to play their NGPC/Lynx/TG16 carts & cards. And there's still no DAC support that was promised from the start - in fact it appears that all references to DAC support have been scrubbed from the Pocket's product and store pages.
This looks amazing!
Does anyone know if there is a wireless controller compatible with this BUT with the original N64 layout?
They're giving us all of that for under 250 bucks?
(I don't know how many people here will follow where I'm going with this?)
@N00BiSH @nocdaes i think they keep the color versions for limited time releases, just as they’ve done with the pocket.
@Zuljaras most likely the NSO N64 controller will work on this?
Does anyone know if the Analogue 3D OS will also run the normal Analogue OS games / systems?
Also:
Analogue ‘NO lag! The games will run exactly as they were imagined by the developer’
Every N64 game: ‘lagging constantly’
@nocdaes Nintendo aren't doing it cause they are a console game manufacturer, not clone maker. They make modern game consoles, retro game consoles are for the after market companies to make.
@nocdaes I suppose that makes sense, but I do wish there was still some extra color on these.
“The system makes use of the 220k LE Altera Cyclone 10GX FPGA chip, "the most powerful FPGA Analogue has ever used in a product."”
How does that stack up against MiSTer and Pocket? Any chance it can give us new stuff?
@jamess it’s definitely more capable than the Mister and Pocket. It would depend how much of that is being used for the upscaling etc, and if they open it up either via OpenGPGA or some jailbreak method.
As someone who's about to move, probably into someplace less than half the size of the current living situation, I'm looking very forward to this. I have a 19" CRT that has been doing God's work, but it's almost guaranteed I won't be able to use it. The only system hooked up to it is N64 anyway, so this is the absolute fix I need.
Also, I love my Analogue Pocket. Sleep mode is a game changer for me.
This is definitely a day one purchase for me. I've been waiting for FPGA tech to catch up to the N64 for about ten years. I have HD solutions for every Nintendo console, but the N64. I have an Eon Super 64 adapter, but it hardly does the system justice. The N64 has a small library of some of the greatest games ever made. It's even affordable. I didn't expect that.
@mrfield Cool. Thanks for the reply. I may well get one then. Will give it some thought.
@Friendly "Every N64 game: ‘lagging constantly’"
I think what you're talking about is slowdown—which is different from the added input latency you get from emulating and/or upscaling. All Analogue is saying is that, contrary to software emulation, the Analogue 3D won't add any latency. Which is true.
As for the NSO N64 controller, yep, it'll work with this. It's shown in their promo images.
I was very interested in this when it was first announced. I’m still interested, just justifying the expense. That being said, the price is where I hoped it to be.
@Serpenterror the NES mini and the SNES mini suggest otherwise. Nintendo would absolutely clean up if they released a new Gameboy that played original carts, Color and Advance. They would also clean up if they re-released original carts in limited volumes - you know... kinda like the Amiibos... but with an actual purpose. They could even stick a chip in the games so they unlock things like an amiibo.
Really simple, low risk, high reward stuff targeting the massive untapped retro games economy that is thriving.
But they give us NSO! I love them... but they are fools.
Likewise, SEGA would clean up with a Dreamcast or a Saturn. But no... we get yet another frigging Mega Drive collection with the same games. Over and over again. I mean you wouldn't believe it would you? Analogue selling gameboys at 250 a pop that can even play game gear games.
Nintendo and SEGA - tumbleweed.
@Friendly That's a good point regarding LE colour versions. Not sure they'll do it with the 3D as demand is likely to be considerably lower than the Pocket, but maybe one day I guess.
When will the controller gods bless us with a bluetooth controller that has 6 primary face button as well as 4 shoulder buttons and two analog sticks?
Anyway this is cool and I am glad they didn't go crazy on the price.
Hoping their next system is just a general FPGA with modular cartridge slots and CD drive accessory.
-Edit: Is that a CD slot on the side? Perhaps it is just a vent, but a guy can dream...
@Zuljaras 8Bitdo sells a "DIY" kit to change a real N64 controller into a wireless bluetooth controller.
Looking forward to this. Have Analogue mentioned how pre ordering will work? Is it a pre order window (like it was with the pocket) or is it fastest finger when pre orders go live?
They've done both approaches but much prefer a pre order window.
@nocdaes It's hard to pin real numbers on this since I'm not aware of any publicized sales figures for various Analogue products, but I think your take is a really optimistic view of how successful first-party cartridge-based devices would actually be. These are relatively niche devices that don't shift millions of units.
The brief flurry of mini-consoles doesn't prove anything. They were plug-and-play devices with built-in libraries of games that were made on the cheap and intended to scratch a nostalgic itch. They appeal specifically to people who don't already have a bunch of carts at home which, let's be honest, is the vast majority of people.
Releasing a device that can only play legacy media that is no longer in wide production does not make sense for a global corporation that can be making far more money on other ventures (even if one of those ventures is apparently a weird alarm clock).
It does make sense for a smaller company like Analogue that can shift a modest number of units and call that a big success.
@Razieluigi Yep, I take your point that Nintendo have far bigger fish to fry. I still think they are missing a trick - it's as good a complimentary business as Amiibo and alarm clocks I'd say.
I didn't see it mentioned in the article, but in case anyone was curious... there are screenshots on the Analogue website that show Save States are included. Pretty significant detail in terms of being able to pick up and play through these games.
@NeonPizza I actually liked what they had going with the Super Nt, which at least had the decency of offering color schemes reminiscent of the system's inspiration, and a transparent one to boot. Not really sure what happened that caused them to change course after that.
@DestructoDisk "When will the controller gods bless us with a bluetooth controller that has 6 primary face button as well as 4 shoulder buttons and two analog sticks?"
RIGHT? I wish 6 face buttons became the norm.
I'll finally be able to play Star Wars Rogue Squadron and see the tie-fighters again! Really so much looking forward to this. You'll see me in line on release day!
I’ll probably get one. Hoping that small irritations on the Duo like the controller light blinking will be addressed… I ended up just using a factory wired gamepad. Either way, cool news!
@ChromaticDracula Yep, it's one of the highlights for sure. Battle for Naboo and Shadows Of the Empire too... I'm also really looking forward to playing Resident Evil 2 on the N64 for the very first time.
@nocdaes I LOVE shadows of the empire!!
Also, you reminded me, I have a copy of Resident Evil 2 for N64 but it glitches out when I play it through my RetroTink so it's been largely unplayable. I have a hunch it's something to do with the pre-rendered backgrounds. I wouldn't have thought it would trip it up at all but it's the only thing I can think of. I believe the cart to be in good working order otherwise...
That will change when I get this Analogue 3D!
I have a ton of N64 nostalgia, and I love the idea of this product. I'll stick with my original hardware + upscalers for now, but I'm excited to see what kind of video the A3D can produce!
I would not buy this with the expectation that your games will be rendering at 4k or running at anything other than the original 20 FPS. The wording is extremely vague if not outright misleading.
Probably gonna get this. Been slowly replacing my OG hardware so that I can play my games into retirement. (I keep my working hardware, just box it up).
I'm really interested in this, I love my analogue pocket and I think I'll like this too 😃
Of course just like analogue pocket I hope we can emulate other console too, man it will be cool to play psone games with 4K support on tv.
i’d be curious why people want to play retro games on a massive OLED or LED tv. they look crap regardless of your scaler (and this thing’s crt filters will be nowhere near what retrotink put out)
if you love n64 just take your original console and plug it into any crt or spend the money on an rgb mod and a decent 20 inch PVM or if you cant afford that a consumer trinitron. the whole experience will be miles better that anything on a flat panel
I recently retired my HDMI modded N64 and went back to an RGB modded one to use on a CRT. It looks so much better over a CRT, there really is no comparison.
I’d consider one of these as a spare if my N64 ever dies but knowing Analogue they won’t make enough and then they’ll dole out limited amounts of new colours which will also sell out immediately. When they stop doing that I’ll buy from them again.
@nocdaes Analog is priced catering towards an enthusiast market who knows what they're doing with old games.
Nintendo or Sega releasing a console that plays thirty year old cartridges would have to be ready for a flood of questions from people who don't know the maintenance issues.
It's why the Atari Flashback 2 released in like 2005 was designed to be modded to add a cartridge port to play 2600 carts. It was presumed one who had the technical knowledge to add a cartridge slot would know to deal with the old tech issues on their own (ie, they don't need to be told hold to clean their games). Users who don't would only be playing it stock with the onboard games.
@KingMike Yep, that's all true too... but Nintendo could re-release the old games. They could do limited editions, they could do collections (multiple titles on one cartridge), they could sell literally just the cartridge.
Nintendo should already have all the boxes, instruction manuals and pack art available as a resource. It's wrong of them to not have this widely available - just like how you can go on LEGO and get any instructions you need (even LEGO Dimensions). I appreciate there's the commercial side of things, but I really feel Nintendo don't do enough on all things retro - and I'm only picking on them because they have such a fantastic and rich history. I could point the finger just as easily at someone like Konami too.
@ChromaticDracula I was reading an article about the N64 version of Resident Evil 2 just the other day. Apparently it's the only Resident Evil game that 1. Has cheat codes (which is going to be a whole lot of fun for a second play through) and 2. Has the ability to toggle the gore level (just a fun option! Got to love Nintendo's take that it's the "pixelated red blobs" that make the game inappropriate in some way...! When it's actually practically everything else in the game lol)
@zer0coast yes i changed to the analogizer.. which is a lovely product... crt never looked so good
Excited for this from the region free aspect as I've had a US copy of Conker's Bad Fur Day for about 10 years and I'll finally be able to play it if I can get hold of an Analogue 3D. I may be falling for the marketing hype but it sounds like it might give my N64 collection a new lease of life and $249 seems very reasonable (though their shipping costs to the UK no doubt won't be).
@Edd-O oh damn, the shippingcosts... thanks for warning me... that dampered my enthousiasmquite a bit..
rationally i guess i don't have to buy it.. happy with by n64, maybe should invest in an even better cable.. not really feel the need to play them bigger screen (and have nso to tha tif needed)
but am wondering what the fpga chip could do when unlocked... saturn fpga.. now that would be something
@romanista Don't forget you don't just pay $50 shipping costs but also another £50 for import tarrifs.
@nocdaes but they do, just in a different difrection than you would like .. they know that for 90% NSO and the nes mini is enough...
@ShaiHulud yup i know.. i did buy the dock though seperately so i had to do it again... (really happy with the dock by the way, really transform the AP in my one shop to go retro appliance for most things, built a little arcade paradise with a standing desk and turnable monitor https://x.com/RomanistaSwitch/status/1745831501483102289)
@romanista Blimey, that's a nice setup you've got there!
@romanista Yes, but you're forgetting that it's the 10% that spend ALL the money...!
I wish a Company other than Analog was making these so normal people can actually have a shot at buying them.
Instead it's analog, Manchildren in the FPGA space, and scam artists.
@PopetheRev28 I don't know about previous Analogue releases but here's what I've experienced with the 3D.
1. They told us it was coming months and months ago.
2. They allowed us to sign up for an email when details of the pre-order would be revealed.
3. I received the email and I now have exact details of the pre-order a solid 5 full days before it opens.
So they've told me what it is. They've given me loads of time to save some money up. Theyve given me plenty of time to see the ore-order date. And they've told me exactly when and where to secure that pre-order.
If you really want one... then it's right there ready for you at 4pm BST on Monday.
Is that even a lot of effort? No it isn't. Can you rock up in Novemeber to get one? Of course not - and whilst I appreciate the low level stock is irritating for a lot of people, it's not going to impact the early adopters.
@PopetheRev28 If you try to shop for an off-the-shelf Intel (Altera) 10CX220 FPGA, its price ranges from $300 to $600. Obviously, Analogue is getting a discount by buying these FPGAs in bulk for the 3D, but for you to say that Analogue is outright scamming its customers with some overpriced plastic and silicon is pretty laughable.
@jamess The 3D's FPGA has double the logic elements of the MiSTer's FPGA (220K to 110K). The Pocket's FPGA that's used for its hardware emulation has 49K logic elements.
@bronZfonZ Wow that’s quite a difference. Impressed they’ve hit that price point if it’s that much bigger than the MiSTer. Sounds like it’s the first “next gen” FPGA device to market then. I’m not at all technical but I guess that opens up quite a bit in terms of what would be possible on it?
I'm sure there will be transparent and color models made available later. I might wait for the inevitable metal "Noir" version. Hehe.
@jamess It won't, because the 3D does not support openFPGA. It's basically locked into the N64. openFPGA would've cannibalized its own business, because it would've made their Mega SG, Super NT, and Duo virtually pointless (aside from their abilities to read physical carts/CDs).
@bronZfonZ Understood. Based on what @mrfield was saying above it would still be possible via jailbreak if one existed though? Appreciate it’s dependent on one being available but there is a good track record of that. At the moment I’m planning to take a punt (availability permitting).
Got one in white! Looking forward to it arriving hopefully nice and early next year.
Still available more than 30 minutes later. Looks like they're going to push the button on manufacture once they have a steer on volume to make.
Seems a fair and honest method to me - nobody can say they didn't have the chance... the "3D coming in 2024" has been advertised on their website for around a year, the pre-order warning was almost a week and had plenty of coverage including two reminder emails from Analogue and the store opened on time and handled the order perfectly.
Easy.
Got one too, in black. Couldn’t get hold of an 8BitDo 64 in black though. Seems like it was never available, white controllers are still available though.
Got one in black. Completed check out at 16:01 with some hardcore shmup-like focus but looks like it was unnecessary as they’re still taking preorders now.
I'm a wh*re for Analogue products so naturally I pre-ordered. Nice to see there's still stock though over an hour later.
@jamess the jailbreaks of past Analogue consoles aren't real jailbreaks. They're unofficial official firmware leaked by Analogue to add the play ROM from sd card feature. They don't allow you to load other cores or do anything the firmware isn't allowing. There are no real jailbreaks for any Analogue console. And the 'jailbreak' for the Duo took a long time to leak out so no one should buy the 3D with any expectation except playing carts and beyond that should only expect to play N64 roms someday.
@Bonggon5 N64 emulation has been so bad for so long. This is long overdue.
As if it's taken this long to actually get to play a gaming classic such as GoldenEye properly again. People will say NSO was good enough, but anyone that played GoldenEye even half as much as I did back in the day will be able to spot, at regular intervals, things that just aren't right.
Nintendo used to be all about the tiny details. Switch era has been a huge success for them, but I tell you what, their standards have dropped a little.
Quick question, did anyone else see the black 8BitDo controller available at any point?
I see the white one can still be preordered, but not the black.
Either it sold out super fast, or was never available.
@Coalescence Yeah thanks for explaining. I read up on all that this morning before deciding to buy and reached the same conclusion. I do own a number of the other Analogue consoles and some of them do play other cores when jailbroken but understand it’s not open to other developers, just Analogue. My main hope was that the extra logic elements would make more possible on the arcade side, beyond what’s currently possible on MiSTer / Pocket. I appreciate that’s very unlikely on the 3D but am happy to buy based on what it could do just for N64 carts + anything else is a bonus (I’m a big N64 fan with a decent cart collection). The main thing this has made me want though is a new MiSTer equivalent with the additional logic elements, particularly if it’s around the USD 250 mark - much lower than the price bracket that was being discussed for MARS a while back!
@Bod2019 No, I’ve been checking through the day and it’s not been available. The white was actually available on Amazon a couple of hours before the 3D. But no black that I’ve seen.
@jamess
Thanks for the reply. I’ll keep checking.
Interesting that the white has gone out of stock. Black is still available to pre-order.
Based on the comments above, most went with black, so perhaps they made less white?
So many unknowns with this product. No video footage of the console running, no official release date and no idea on when we'll get any updates about orders. If you order the black version and want the controller, there's no guarantees you'll get it anytime soon because it's not even out yet!
They're expecting way too much trust from customers if they're genuinely confident about the quality of this console. Sure, they've released some solid products of late, not least the Analogue Pocket but that doesn't mean this one will fulfil all the big promises they've made in their advertising spiel.
Right now it looks like they're cashing in on a very ripe N64 retro market, hungry for something better to work with modern 4K screens and willing to overlook any potential pitfalls. Hopefully this all turns out well for those who've ordered but right now this is not a good look and quite frankly, a little surprising given how established and respected they've become in recent years.
@Jalex_64 I’ve found Analogue’s products have been high quality and unmatched in terms of FPGA solutions supporting real carts. I’ve ordered with full faith that they’ll deliver again, TBH the thought that they won’t deliver hasn’t even crossed my mind. They’ve said it will ship Q1 2025. The black controller is a separate purchase so won’t affect this (and 8Bitdo are reliable IMO). I guess that anyone who’s concerned about their ability to deliver will be able to order further down the line - so no need to take a risk if you’re uncomfortable with it.
I appreciate the extra context of your past experience with Analogue, so thank you for that. However, it would still have been nice if they'd been able to provide some native 4K footage prior to orders going live.
As they haven't, the optics don't look good, which is unfortunate. The other more minor issues I could overlook, but not this. It doesn't seem unreasonable for potential customers to want to know precisely what they are buying into and see it for themselves.
Of course, on one level I can see why they didn't. A 60 second promo video, showing off Nintendo's time worn classics running at their absolute best would no doubt have provided Nintendo with strong grounds to have it removed.
However, it's still asking a little too much for me. I'm not prepared to give up money, no matter how reasonable the price appears now, to wait up to 5 months for a system that may not even live up to the hype.
So yes, looks like I will be waiting it out and checking out footage as and when it becomes available. Hopefully this is just an IP / copyright issue and everyone invested in it can walk away happy because if the Analogue video and compatibility claims are true, it looks set to be an incredible console that most of us long-time N64 fans will be proud to own and enjoy their collections on for years to come.
@Jalex_64 Yeah I’m interested to see how the CRT effect they’re talking about looks in 4K. They say on their website that it does 1080p but 4K is the better experience. I’m sure the FPGA implementation is at an advanced stage so videos would definitely have been possible. My guess is you’re right and it’s them trying to keep a low profile particularly with how litigious Nintendo have been recently. Not sure if they took the same approach with their NES and SNES consoles in the run up to their launches (I bought them after launch).
@jamess @jalex_64
Personally, I’ve bought the Pocket and Mega SG at initial pre order stage, and I’d memory serves me right, neither were offered with videos of the system functioning.
They had renders with gifs running on a screen of the pocket for example, but there was no indication or suggestion that was actual footage from the device.
I could be for forgetting something, but I just don’t think putting out videos of the system working, at this stage is a thing they do.
I’m ordering on the basis I have purchased a good few products from them in the past and all have delivered and met my expectations.
I honestly just want it in the standard N64 gray color. I also wish they would do another run of the NT mini or whatever the NES console was called...but not in aluminum.
@Jalex_64 It'll play N64 cartridges and it'll plug into a modern TV all for around 250 quid (once you add on postage and customs).
4K videos are entirely unnecessary. The 3D isn't going to make GoldenEye suddenly look like an amazing 4K game. It's simply going to make GoldenEye playable on a 4K television.
I don't need to see a video of that.
I cannot comprehend how anyone would seriously look at the 3D and think it's going to magically spit out N64 games in 4K versions. That's clearly not what Analogue are saying... the resolution has been improved. That's a given just to get it to play on a 4K TV.
Besides, who even cares about the 4K?! I'm not buying the 3D because of the 4K resolution. I'm buying it so I can finally play GoldenEye exactly as it is supposed to be. Not some buggy rom. Not the crappy NSO version packed full of glitches! The original game precisely as it was at launch.
Not a single soul on the planet has achieved that in over 25 years.
Analogue deserve a bit more respect imo.
@KingMike You got all that juice out of one little orange? type beat. (Groening's Version)
@nocdaes 4K is very necessary for videos such as this, especially in my use case. I already own an Ultra HDMI modded N64 that connects to modern TVs, so would very interested to see what tangible differences there might be between the two solutions. You're far less likely to see any potential improvements in your average, lossy 1080P YT upload.
It's not simply about the resolution either. Analogue also mention some 'Original Display Modes' that are "virtually indistinguishable recreations of CRT displays to capture the warmth, depth, and texture in every frame. The soft glow of phosphor, vibrant colors intersect with immersive scanlines and shadow masks. This isn't just upscaling - it's an unprecedented transformation."
When a company makes such grandiose statements as these, it can only compel any reader interested in the product to want to see it in action before laying down money, particularly those of us who already have alternatives that may or may not be better. That's my point, we just don't know at this juncture.
As for respect, it works both ways. Analogue should respect its customers by providing them with enough information to make an informed choice before purchasing. As it stands, that's not the case for me and I'm sure many others who've invested in 4K upscalers and console mods over the years. If a video wasn't possible for legal reasons, then so be it, I can happily respect that but it doesn't mean customers should automatically presume this is better than what they have and purchase it regardless.
@Jalex_64 Yep, fair point. I can certainly see why anyone that has gone down the upscale route may want a comparison.
I do agree with you on the respect piece too actually. I've said before (on a previous Analogue article - I think their Pocket GBC release recently) that they should invest some of their cash in a communications manager.
Whether that translates into sharing more video of their products ahead of sale... who knows - but at the very least we should be getting more emails from them, better social media posts (I.e. not just endless game gifs) and, here's a crazy one, updating their Press section on the website to have the latest information...
Even with the 3D pre-order announce, this very article is missing the fact it ships in Q1 2025, the fact it features save states, the fact it will function with the NSO N64 Controller- all because Analogue can't communicate properly.
This must have some power as the N64 requires a fair bit of grunt to emulate as standard.
