@AngelFox it’s almost as if the video game site saw a video game related story and wrote an editorial about it. And MAYBE, Obama didn’t use official government resources to fund games about dehumanizing immigrants during his administration
@BLAZINOAH that’s maybe the most bad faith argument you could make here.
Unless you seriously believe government funded propaganda using IP parody to dehumanize immigrants is analogous to a Marlboro parody billboard that was removed from international versions of the game.
@BLAZINOAH calling Gone Home “far left propaganda” is a wild thing to say. Especially compared to this, which is literal propaganda made by a government.
@OdysseyPoint my bad I forgot your maga bubble is actually real life. And, living in Minneapolis, all the people I know whose lives were torn apart by ICE are in fact barely people and are there just to be used to get points in fascist propaganda. And all the violence and chaos and people I saw protesting it every day with my own eyes were actually lies been beamed to my brain by the mainstream media.
@Allnightgaming Difference is, I’m not profiting off the roms sitting in my Mister. But to clear, I’m not worried about the train companies making profit or getting their stuff used without permission. It’s more just a really bad idea for a commercial product.
I’m no copyright lawyer or expert so I’m not sure if the train companies have a legal route, but in the US if a company has a copyright that is being used without permission there is actually a legal expectation for them to defend it or they risk losing the copyright. If it gets on their radar and they have a case, they will absolutely send a notice from their lawyers.
Obviously, shame every game that uses AI (double for not disclosing it) and steals assets but “game clones” are a part of game history and development and a good thing. I mean, Jeff Minter would just be a farmer and we’d be denied some of the best home brews of all time if “cloning” games wasn’t a thing. It’s kind of just how the industry iterates too!
Wait, he also used licensed trains without a license? Okay yeah, he just seems like someone who has no idea what he’s doing. Sounds like, even putting AI theft aside, he’s using other people’s work to profit and of course that’s going to get you into trouble.
@ojisan i mean, your reply to me is just reinforcing what I said about people saying we have no choice but to sit back and let generative AI steal and destroy.
But again, we do have a choice. It isn’t inevitable. We can not use products that use Gen AI. We can openly discuss the negative impact gen AI has.
And i definitely think there are more important things than if a game is “good”. For instance if a game uses gen AI or a company supports genocide, that will be a bigger aspect of my buying decisions than subjective quality.
@Peteykins I think they literally have to keep pretending it’s a thing to avoid lawsuits and being forced to refund consumers for their obvious scam. As long as they can keep pointing at the Amico, they can avoid giving out refunds.
I was wondering how long I’d have to scroll to get to the Elon approved AI bro response. Didn’t even have to scroll. Even got points on my ‘AI bro talking points’ bingo card for mentioning ‘the world is too sensitive’.
@Lanmanna I’m just looking at it as a news story, you don’t usually see something called “the best” and you don’t usually see qualifiers that have nothing to do with the story in the headline. Tons of subjectivity all over the story.
But it’s not really a complaint! I don’t engage in the enthusiast press much so it’s more of a “whoa, that’s wild this headline got past an editor”

Re: "A Pathetic And Shameful Moment In American History" - Trump Turns Human Suffering Into Retro Games To The Tune Of Sonic The Hedgehog
@AngelFox such a weird whataboutism.
“I just wish the video game site would write about the other administration who also murders immigrants but has nothing to do with games”

Maybe! Who could know?!

And is also 30 years old!

Gone Home is a game with themes you don’t like….

Easy mistake to make, sorry!

@OdysseyPoint
Reminder that the majority of Americans don’t support ICE and are embarrassed by stunts like these.
Re: Retro Rail Go! Dev Removes AI Assets & Rebrands Following "Online Hate & Accusations"
@sftwn yes, that is what I meant. Thank you for correcting!
Like I said, not an expert but I do get why someone would defend their IP.

Man, pro-AI bros have really bought into the “it’s inevitable” lie they’ve been told.
No. It isn’t.
What’s inevitable is having fifteen AI chuds come into any discussion about AI to tell you that it’s inevitable.

Man, having that qualifier in the headline of a news story is wild.
