@OdysseyPoint It's just not true to suggest that devs using AI don't care about making something good. It's a tool like any other and should be seen as such. Would you fire an accountant for using a calculator rather than working out the answers on a sheet of paper? Would they lose their job for being lazy and not doing the sums properly on paper or is a calculator a legit tool? This is the nonsense of broadstroke AI hate. Just because there exists some poor quality use cases and devs that don't care does not automatically make the technology bad. Should we ban all computers because some pedo downloaded some illegal images? No - his use case doesn't mean you are doing that on your computer. This is the problem with this absurd "all AI is bad" childlike mentality. It doesn't recognise the nuance of the topic and the good massive time savings developers can get from the technology. It makes the unqualified assumption that anything touching AI is automatically low-effort and that is not only wrong but super lazy thinking.
@H_Hog That's where you're wrong. The underlying principles and methods developed for image generation and other AI strategies can often be repurposed across multiple fields. Take the current diffusion models used for state of the art image gen. Google has worked on repurposing the underlying diffussion method as a parallel replacement for the serial nature of LLMs. That is denoising entire answers rather than sequentially generating tokens. To make a nooblike assumption that the components and methods of AI employed in their current roles dictate that the technology must indefinitely remain locked in those current roles fails to understand the broader power of the algorithms and architectures we are discussing. It's a bit like seeing facial recognition tech spot criminals in a crowd and not realising the same transfer learning model could be repurposed to spot cancer cells.
This is the danger of broadstroke AI hate and the low-IQ mob mentality of deeming everything remotely touched by AI as AI slop.
Sadly the only slop I see these days comes out of the mouths of misinformed AI-haters wasting their energy berating any developers that use AI (which is ALL of them in some capacity) to the point that every dev on Steam has to hide their AI use just to pacify the angry circlejerk of lazy thinking sheeple engaged in this misguided AI witch hunt.
@bring_on_branstons It would be my buy list. Gonna support those AI-using guys to the hilt. It's the future of gaming. To be specific, ones who use it responsibly rather than using it to churn out low-quality content. The two concepts are sadly not equivalent and unfortunately in many places like reddit and here non-developers take an overly simplified view that anything remotely touched by AI is inherently bad and that is absolutely nonsense.
Wow GordonBennett let me get this right, because I don't hate AI and am in favour of its use and avidly support it you say that must mean I "huff paint". Bless you mate and your quest to banish AI. Good luck. Maybe if enough balding guys on retro game forums could band together we could all close this dreadful AI Pandora's box? I mean if we shut down AI altogether we'd be shutting down breakthrough state of the art research into anti cancer drugs. Maybe we could form a little committee drinking real ale in a country pub reminiscing about Jet Set Willy while drafting a stern letter to Sam Altman with an ultimatum telling him to keep his grubby little fingers out of retro games but leave the cancer stuff alone or are we saying its all bad?
@GordonBennet I think you've made the right decision. Sorry my view differs from yours and it makes you all "hunt the guy who's not anti AI like us." Awww, somebody said something different. These outsiders not willing to join in the hate!
@GameManAdvance There's nothing "spiteful" about what I said it's my belief although that as it differs from yours you seem to think its ok to brand my views "spiteful". I believe the hysteria over AI content is unfounded and based purely on knee-jerk generalised reactions to low effort productions. AI enables competent coders to develop faster and competent artists to avoid tedious chores that would have otherwise taken way longer. It's a tool like any other but listen to you, you're like a car worker in a factory in the 1970's afraid of the robots. Hating all AI because you saw some poor quality content from some AI. That's irrational at best in my view. And as for you not caring you cared enough to reply LOL.
@mjparker77 Bit flattering to claim the original Manic Miner had "physics" when it just had a basic jump with gravity on the player only. No interactions between bodies just basic collision detection. No other objects in the game affected by gravity. Hardly physics. It had physics the same way it had an OST.

@gojiguy Why are there quote marks around "it most definitely is" who were you quoting?

All the pitchfork waving AI hate is pathetic. I will go out of my way to buy AI games just to stand up to this technophobic nonsense.
