I'm really curious to know the age range of the people hating on an unreleased tech they're under no obligation to buy. Because while most of commodore's intended demographic hates this phone, I've noticed that younger people are more intrigued by it.
I agree with the sentiment you can likely find a phone that does similar or may be better suited to a broader set of needs than what callback seems to provide. And you likely could buy that for way cheaper.
The design is a big factor for me. While the other phones in the line are similar to the style of a regular flip phone, I absolutely love the design of the starlight version. I think you'd also be hard pressed to find an older flip phone that can do video calling, and as MarioFart64 mentioned, also capable of whatsapp usage. Personally, I need and use whatsapp, signal, and video calling more than my email or banking apps. I also appreciate that it has a functional gps, 4G, a better camera and just overall upgraded specs you wouldn't find on an older flip phone. I like to take photos and listen to music on my phone, sue me ...
While there are other modern 'dumbphones' that sell for cheaper like clicks communicator, I personally dislike the design. I don't mind spending more on a phone that will serve essentially the same function as a cheaper dumbphone, but that I will love using much more and love the look of. I can justify this because I'm overall not a big tech person, so I'm not constantly making big purchases on technology. So the few times I do buy new tech, I don't mind splurging.
Personally, Im eager to support this kind of vision. I think it's cool. But if you're hesitant, maybe get a cheap dumbphone and see how it works for you. It seems they have intentions to get partnered with a carrier, and once that happens this phone will probably be much cheaper. Plus, you will get the benefit of seeing reviews without having to make a big purchase.
