@Lowdefal The issue wasn’t the production costs for the discs, it was the licensing fees that get charged to publishers. Nintendo was under the assumption that Sony would be collecting fees on non-gaming software (edutainment, media) and Nintendo would collect licensing fees on games. Sony had actually planned on collecting licensing fees from ALL types of content on the system. This would mean that publishers would be paying Sony instead of Nintendo for games on the system. Essentially, this would replace Sony as the platform holder while still using Nintendo’s name and pushing them to publisher status on their own hardware
